488 <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br />Mr. Huja summarized the consultant's study of the 9th and 10th <br />Street realignment and gave the Planning Commission's recommendation. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Gunter, seconded by Dr. Hail, the resolution <br />was unanimously approved, as-amended to include the consultant's <br />recommendation. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council has determined that it is-necessary and <br />appropriate for the future transportation needs of the City to <br />initiate certain improvements to Ninth and Tenth Streets,~.~S.W.; and <br /> <br /> -WHEREAS,~.the- City has employed its own design consultants to <br />recommend a conceptual design and alignment of this street project, <br />and the-recommendations of that consultant have been reviewed, <br />modified and approved by the' City Planning Commission; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation <br />requires a formal request for each project'and cer.tain commitments <br />on the part of City Council, before the Department can initiate work <br />on such highway projects t.o be funded from the City's annual alloca- <br />tions .of urban highway improvement funds; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation <br />be and hereby is requested to establish a project within the <br />corporate limits of the City of Charlottesville for the reconstruction, <br />realignment and improvement of Ninth and Tenth Streets, S.W. between <br />West Main Street and Cherry Avenue. <br /> <br /> 2. That the Department proceed immediately with this project in <br />order that its completion might coincide as nearly as practicable <br />with the opening of the replacement University of Virginia Hospital <br />.and the constru-tion of service roads to that facility. <br /> <br /> 3. That the design of this project be in accord With the proposal <br />(C2) of P'flum, Klausmeier and Wagner, Engineers, as recommended-~by <br />the City Planning Commission, a copy of-which shall be furnished to the <br />Department with this resolution. <br /> <br /> 4. That the City hereby agrees to pay its share of the cost of <br />engineering, acquisition of right-of=way, and construction of such <br />project under the cost formula of 95% from the Department and S% from <br />the City. <br /> <br /> S.
