1.10 Resolution re: Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission to surrounding Counties Executive Session On motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by M~s. O'Brien the following resolution was unanimously adopted. WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville has been an active participant in the Thomas Jefferson Planning District, since the formation of that regional body; and WHEREAS., this Council has learned with regret of the recent decisions by the Board of Supervisors of the Counties of Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson to discontinue their participation in, and funding of, the work of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District at the conclusion of the current fiscal year; and WHEREAS, the Council is fully aware of the frustrations, limitations and difficulties inherent in the regional planning proceSs; and WHEREAS, we are nevertheless convinced that the continued functioning of that process is of great importance to' all of the jurisdictions comprising the planning district; and WHEREAS, we are anxious that~the benefits produced by the regional planning process should continue to accrue to all participating jurisdictions; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED~by the Council of the~City of Charlottesville, Virginia that we ~hereSy express to the Board of Supervisors of the Counties of Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson our extreme regret at their decision to terminate their participation in the Thomas Jefferson Planning District, and urge each of them to reconsider that decision; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to send certified copies of this resolution to the Boards of Supervisors of such counties, to the Board of Supervisors of the County .of Albemarle~ and to the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission. A motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Gatewood that Council meet in executive session to discuss matters exempted by Section 2.1-344(a)(1) and 2.1-344(a) (2) of the Virginia Freedom of Inform- ation Act, was adopted by the following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Brunton, Mr. Buck, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: None. Absent: Mr. Albro.
