Resolution re: <br />Rann Preserve <br /> <br /> On motion~b~y~?Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr, Barbour the <br />following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Commission of Outdoor <br />Recreation provides funds to assist political subdivisions <br />of the Commonwealth of Virginia in acquiring and developing <br />open space and park land; and <br /> <br />8:3 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there is an urgent need within the <br />Charlottesville-Albemarle Community to preserve open space <br />lands for present and future recreational use; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the property owned by the Nature Consevancy, <br />containing approximately 80 acres, adjacent to the Rivanna <br />Reservoir and State Routes 743 and 676 in Albemarle County, <br />which is sometimes referred to as the Rann Preserve, is deemed <br />to be Of high priority for acquisition and preservation as <br />open space land; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in order to attain funding assistance for <br />this project it is required that each political subdivision <br />provide a proportionate share of the cost thereof; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the proposed project would be funded in the <br />ration of fifty percent from the Virginia Commission of Out- <br />door Recreation, twenty-five percent from the County of <br />Albemarle, and twenty-five percent from the City of <br />Charlottesville; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT JOINTLY RESOLVED by the Board <br />of Supervisors of the County of Albemarle and the Council of <br />the City of Charlottesville that the County Executive and <br />City Manager are hereby authorized and directed to furnish <br />such information and materials as may be necessary to make <br />application to the appropriate State and Federal agencies for <br />funding of the acquisition of the aforesaid property; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors <br />and City Council give their assurance that the funds required <br />as the respective proportionate shares of the County and City <br />in the funding of such projects will be provised, up to a <br />maximum of 70,000 dollars from each jurisdiction; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Albemarle <br />and City of Charlottesville will abide by all applicable State <br />and Federal regulations governing the exoenditure of such <br />funds to be provided by the Virginia Commission of Oi~tdoore <br />Recreation; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Bureau of Outdoor <br />Recreation of the United States Department of the Interior and <br />the Virginia Commission of Outdoor Recreation are <br />respectfully requested to assist in the prompt approval and <br />funding of the acquisition of the Rann Preserve, in order to <br />provide the benefits of a permanent open space area in the <br />vicinity of the Rivanna Reservoir for the benefit of the citizens <br />of the County of Albemarle and the City of Charlottesville. <br /> <br />On motion the meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br />Pres ident <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1976 <br /> <br />Special meeting <br /> <br />Pursuant to the following call: <br /> <br />Mr. Charles L.
