FRED W. SCOTT ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THE ADOPTION OF A RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> ENDORSING THE IMPROVEMENT Of JACKSON PARK BY THE CIVIC LEAGUE. ON MOTION BY MRo FIfE~ <br /> <br />SECONDED BY MR. BARBOUR, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE CHARLOTTESVILLE-ALBEMARLE CIVIC LEAGUE BY RESOLUTION <br /> <br />ADOPTED ON DECEMBER 2, 1971 HAS UNDERTAKEN THE IMPROVEMENT OF STONEWALL JACKSON PArK <br /> <br /> IN COURT SQUARE IN MEMORY OF MArY FRAZIER CASH; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE LEAGUE WILL REQUIRE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH <br /> <br />THE IMPROVEMENTS SOUGHT TO BE PERFORMED; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE DESIRES TO SEE THE <br /> <br />APPEARANCE OF THIS PARK IMPROVED; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE COUNCIL CONSIDERS IT FITTING THAT MARY FRAZlER CASHES MEMORY <br /> <br />SHOULD BE SO MEMORIAI~IZED, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br /> <br />THAT IT ENDORSES THE IMPROVEMENT OF STONEWALL JACKSON PARK ON COURT SQUARE BY THE <br /> <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE-ALBEMARLE CIVIC LEAGUE; AND <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL ENCOURAGES ALL CITIZENS WHO DESIRE <br /> <br />TO SEE THIS PROJECT CARRIED TO ITS PROPEr CONCLUSION EXPRESS THEIR INTEREST BY <br /> <br />DONATIONS Of SUCH FUNDS AS THEY MAY BE ABLE TO PROVIDE TO THE CHARLOTTESVILLE-ALBEMARLE <br /> <br />CIVIC LEAGUE. <br /> <br /> HR. GEORGE WORTHINGTON ANDANUMBER OF PEOPLE REPRESENTING THE GROUP WHO WiSH TO <br /> <br />PRESERVE THE LEVY OPERA HOUSE ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND ELABORATED ON THE ARCHITECTURAL <br /> <br />AND HISTORICAL VALUE OF THIS HOUSE. THEY REQUESTED COUNCIL TO GIVE SERIOUS CONSIDERATION <br /> <br />TO THIS LANDMARK. <br /> <br /> PETITIONS FOR REZONING AT 3~0 PARK STREET AND AT 104 OBSERVATORY AVENUE WERE REFERRED <br /> <br />TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> THE LAND USE PLAN AS RECOMMENDED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION WAS PRESENTED. THE MAYOR <br /> <br />STATED THAT A PUBLIC HEARING WOULD BE SET AT A LATER DATE. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. WRIGHT, sECONDED BY MR. DAVIS, DECEMBER 247H WAS DECLARED A HOLIDAY <br /> <br />FOR CITY EMPLOYEES THIS YEAR. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. DAVIS, SECONDED BY ~R. BARBOUR~ THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS UNANIMOUS- <br /> <br />LY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THROUGH NEGLECT AND LACK OF CONCERN MANY OF THE STREAMS OF THE <br /> <br />CITY HAVE BECOME BURDENED WITH REFUSE, DESTROYING THEIR BEAUTY, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE STREAMS COULD BE CLEANED UP ONLY BY HAND LABOR~ FOR WHICH <br /> <br />THE CITY HAD INADEQUATE FORCES, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, CONCERNED CITIZENS HAVE CONDUCTED A CLEAN-UP DRIVE THAT DID <br /> <br />MUCH TO RESTORE THE CHARM OF CERTAIN STREAMS IN THE CITY, <br /> <br /> <br />
