He said she has boundless energy, can relate to <br />students and parents, and can communicate effectively. <br /> <br /> Ms. Margaret Edward, 606 Lyons Avenue, endorsed Kenneth Young. She said he <br />is a tireless volunteer, a good listener, and considers all sides to issues. He said he is a <br />consensus buil der and follows through on commitments. <br /> <br /> Mr. Eli Schackleford, 906 Charlton Avenue, supported Laurine Bennett - Moore <br />and said he agrees with everything that has been said about her. <br /> <br /> Ms. Jean Shepard, 1304 Welford Street, endorsed the reappointment of Ded e <br />Smith. She said she wants all the information and listens to all. <br /> <br /> The public hearing was closed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Schilling expressed his appreciation to all candidates who are willing to <br />participate and thanked the speakers who spoke during the public hearing. He said he <br />hopes that some day citizens will be able to directly support candidates by voting at the <br />ballot box. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING/ORDINANCE <br />: QUITCLAIM RIGHT - OF - WAY ON BROWN <br />STREET TO CURE ENCROACHMENT <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell explained that a conveyance has been r equested in order to cure an <br />encroachment. <br /> <br /> The public hearing was opened, but as there were no speakers, the public hearing <br />was closed. <br /> <br />On motion by Mr. Caravati, seconded by Mr. Lynch, the ordinance entitled "AN <br />ORDINANCE TO AUTHORIZE CONVEYANCE OF A P ORTION OF THE BROWN <br />STREET RIGHT - OF - WAY TO BRAD WORRALL AND DONNA CHEN" was offered <br />and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />REPORT <br />: JEFFERSON SCHOOL TASK FORCE <br /> <br /> Ms. Lelia Brown, Co - Chair of the Jefferson School Task Force, said that the Task <br />Force has been meeting on a regular basis, has visited several similar sites, has discussed <br />tax credits, has held community meetings and has met in small groups. Ms. Brown said <br />that the next step is to develop potential development scenarios. <br /> <br /> Ms. M ary Reese, Co - Chair of the Task Force, said the Task Force members have <br />been energetic and committed. She said it is expected that Jefferson School will have a <br />"WOW" factor when completed. Ms. Reese said that the Task Force feels that the <br />th <br />Jefferson Scho ol site would be an excellent location for the celebration of the 50 <br />anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said he is glad to see the Task Force pointing in one direction, but <br />stressed the importance of financial feasibi lity. <br /> <br /> Ms. Reese said the Task Force is mindful that sustainability is important. <br /> <br /> Mr. Schilling asked that the reservations about the Manchester Guild, which the <br />Task Force visited, be addressed, and Ms. Brown said that Manchester Guild has a lot of <br />mon ey on their board. Ms. Brown said that questions remain about that and funding. <br /> <br /> Ms. Reese said you cannot just drop a Manchester Guild model here, but the Task <br />Force can look to other ideas that could be transferable. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox said he found Manchester Guild very impressive, especially the many <br />ways they found to make a profit at what they do.
