NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, July 21, 2003 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Presentation: Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Design <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - July 21, 2003 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Mr. Cox, Mr. Lynch, Ms. Richards, Mr. Schilling. Absent: Mr. Caravati. <br /> <br /> Councilo rs were presented preliminary designs for the Juvenile and Domestic <br />Relations Court renovation. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell said that the Board of Supervisors has expressed its preference for <br />the more traditional design. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox said Councilors will be asked to stat e their design preference during <br />"Other Business" at the regular meeting once Mr. Caravati has arrived. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - July 21, 2003 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Mr. Lynch, M s. Richards, Mr. Schilling. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />th <br /> Ms. Lelia Brown, 316 8 Street, N.W., presented a check for $500 to Council for <br />the Community Scholarship Fund from the Jefferson School Alumni. <br /> <br />th <br /> Mr. John Gaines, 214 9 Street, N.W., President of the WCEH Neighborh ood <br />Association, said he brought concerns before Council at a recent meeting, and asked if he <br />should look to Council or staff for a response. Mr. Gaines said he presented a petition to <br />th th <br />Council four years ago asking that the 9 /10 Street Connector be na med after Roosevelt <br />Brown. He said it was his understanding that Council supports home ownership, but <br />they seems to be more accommodating to rental property in the new zoning ordinance. <br />He said a study presented in March showed a high percentage of stud ents failing the <br />SOLs. He asked what type of resources is Council providing the School system to help <br />with this issue. <br /> <br />
