HAGGERTY~ THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS OFFERED AND CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MEETING <br />FOR CONSIDERATION: <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />THAT $14,000.00 BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED IN ACCORDANCE <br /> <br />WiTH THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br />THE FOLLOWING REPORT OF THE STREET COMMITTEE WAS PRESENTED AND ORDERED SPREAD IN <br />THE MINUTES OF THIS MEETING: <br /> <br />JUNE 30~, 196t <br /> <br />To MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE~ VIRGINIA <br /> <br />GENTLEMEN: <br /> <br /> WE HAVE STUDIED THE COMPLEX QUESTION OF IMPROVING VALLEY ROAD EXTENSION <br />BETWEEN CHERRY AVENUE AND THE SOUTHERN RAILWAY HAIN LINE. THIS SUBDIVISION HAS <br />NEVER BEEN APPROVED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION OR THE COUNCIL AND THE IMPROVE- <br />MENTS OF THIS STREET TO A HINIMUM THIRTY FOOT PAVEMENT WILL BE VERY EXPENSIVE DUE <br />TO THE FACT THAT A STREAH FLOWS APPROXIMATELY IN THE CENTER OF THE DEDICATED RIGHT OF <br />WAY. MOUNT ~) <br />JIM 8OWEN (SIGNED) <br /> <br />THE FOLLOWING REPORT OF THE STREET COHHITTEE WAS PRESENTED AND ORDERED S~READ IN <br /> <br />THE MINUTES OF THIS MEETING: <br /> <br />JUNE 30, 1961 <br /> <br />To MEMBERS Of THE COUNCIL <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE~ VIRGINIA <br /> <br />GENTLEMEN: <br /> <br /> YOUR STREET COMMITTEE HAS INVESTIGATED THE REQUEST THAT Locust AVENUE BE <br />WIDENED AND REPORT THAT THERE ARE THREE ALTERNATIVES FOR THE COUNCIL AND THE <br />PUBLIC TO CONSIDER. <br /> <br />THAT THE STREET BE WIDENED THREE FEET ON EACH SIDE <br />FROM TAYLOR STREET TO CALHOUN STREET AT WHICH POINT <br />THE STREET IS ALREADY 30 FEET BETWEEN CURBS. IN <br />ORDER TO DO THIS AT LEAST 33 LARGE TREES WILL HAVE TO <br />BE REMOVED IN ADDITION TO NEARLY ALL OF THE LARGE <br />DOGWOODS. THE DISTANCE IS APPROXIMATELY 4200 FEET AND <br />THE COST WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY ~47,000.00, OR <br /> <br />REMOVE PARKING FROM THE STREET WHICH WOULD PROVIDE TWO <br />12 FOOT LANES FOR TRAFFIC. EACH RESIDENCE ON THIS <br />STREET HAS OR CAN HAVE A DRIVEWAY IN WHICH ONE OR MORE <br />VEHICLES CAN BE PARKED~ OR <br /> <br /> <br />
