HIGH STREET, MR, JOHN WlTT APPEARED IN OPPOSITION TO THE <br />PROPOSED REZONING AND THE ATTORNEYS FOR HUMBLE OIL COMPANY ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL IN <br />SUPPORT OF THE PETITION, AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING <br /> <br />THE DISTRICT HAP INCORPORATED IN SECTION 4 OF ARTICLE III OF. ON HOTION BY MR, MOUNT) <br /> SECONDED BY MR, SCRIBNER~ THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> A SALUTE TO OUR SISTER CITIES <br /> AS WE~ THE PEOPLE OF CHARLOTTESVILLE~ PREPARE TO CELEBRATE OUR CITY'S <br /> 200TH ANNIVERSARY~ WE ARE DESIROUS OF PAYING TRIBUTE ALSO TO THE CITIZENS <br /> <br /> OF THREE OTHER COMMUNITIES WHO SHARE WITH US THE SAME DATE OF BIRTH, <br /> <br /> ON DECEMBER 23RD~ 1762~ GOVERNOR FAUQUlER SIGNED THE BILL WHICH <br /> <br /> CREATED THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE. ~MNEDIATELY THEREAFTER~ ON THE <br /> <br /> SAHE DATE~ THE GOVERNOR ALSO SIGNED BILLS WHICH ESTABLISHED THE TOWN <br /> <br />OF HANOVER~ THE TOWN OF ~ECKLENBURG~ WHICH IS NOW KNOWN AS SHEPHERDSTOWN~ <br />WEST VIRGINIA~ AND ALSO THE TOWN OF ROMNEY~ ALSO NOW LOCATED IN OUR <br />NEIGHBORING STATE OF WEST VIRGINIA, <br /> <br /> THE SIGNING OF THESE BILLS BY THE GOVERNOR NOT ONLY BROUGHT INTO <br /> <br /> OFFICIAL EXISTENCE THE FOUR COMMUNITIES BUT THEIR SIGNING ALSO GAVE <br /> BIRTH TO A RESPONSIBILITY THAT WAS TO BE SHARED BY EVERY CITIZEN OF <br /> EACH COHMUNITY, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br /> FEELS THAT ITS CITIZENS HAVE CARRIED THIS RESPONSIBILITY IN A <br /> COMMENDABLE WAY AND IT IS FELT CER~AIN THAT THE CITIZENS OF OUR <br /> SISTER CITIES LIKEWISE HAVE CARRIED THEIR RESPONSIBILITY IN A <br /> SIMILAR FASHION. <br /> <br /> <br />
