THis REQUEST WAS REFERRED
TO THE STREET COMMITTEE FOR STUDY AND RECOMMENDATION.

THE FOLLOWING REPORT WAS PRESENTED:

To THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL
CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA

GENTLEMEN:

DECEMBER 31~ 1964

YOUR COMMITTEE HAS INVESTIGATED THE REQUESl OF THE RE.CREATION BOARD
THAT CONSIDERATION BE GIVEN TO PURCHASING THE TRACT OF LAND SOUTH AND
EAST OF GREENBRIER DRIVE FOR A PARK OR PLAYGROUND, AND REPORTS AS
FOLLOWS:

THIS LARGE PARCEL OF LAND LIES ALONG A CREEK, IS VERY LOW AND AS
A RESULT IS VERY '~SWAMPY'! AND iS NOT USABLE IN ITS PRESENT CONDITION. THE
COST OF MAKING THIS LAND USABLE FOR PARK PURPOSES WOULD'BE VERY EXPENSIVE,
IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, AND IN OUR OPINION WOULD NOT JUSTIFY THE CITY
PURCHASING THE PROPERTY.

YOUR COMMITTEE ALSO CALLS ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT THE CITY NOW
HAS A PLAYGROUND AT THE GREENBRIER SCHOOL WHICH IS LOCATED' VERY NEAR TO
THIS PARCEL OF LAND AND THAT SUPERVISED RECREATION iS'PROVIDED AT THE
GREENBRIER PLAY AREA DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.

RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED,

B.
