FRED ROBINSON OF HARLAND BARTHOLOMEW & ASSOCIATES WAS PRESENT AND PRESENTED <br />A PROPOSAL FOR UPDATING THE CITYtS COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AT A COST Of $60)080.00 OF <br />WHICH THE CITY'S SHARE WOULD AMOUNT TO $20,027.00. ON MOTION BY MR. HAGGERTY~ <br />SECONDED BY MR. RENNOLDS~ THE PROPOSAL WAS APPROVED AS PRESENTED AND THE CITY MANAGER <br />WAS INSTRUCTED TO FORWARD THIS PROPOSAL TO THE STATE PLANNING DEPARTMENT WITH THE <br />REQUEST THAT THE STATE PROCEED WITH AN APPLICATION TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR <br />701 FUNDS TO PAY TWO-THIRDS (2/SRDS) OF THE COST OF THIS WORK. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. RENNOLDS~ SECONDED BY MR. PONTON, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS <br />UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, ON THE 23RD DAY OF JUNE, 1966, JOSEPH LEE WINSTON FILED HIS <br />PETITION FOR ANNEXATION UNDER SECTION 15,1-1034 OF THE CODE OF VIRGINIA TO SEEK <br />ANNEXATION BY THE CITY OF APPROXIMATELY 51½ ACRES SITUATED IN THE CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VIRGINIA, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ THIS LAND IS ADJACENT TO THE GREENBRIER SUBDIVISION AND <br />APPROXIMATELY 38 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL PERIHETER OF THE LAND TOUCHES UPON OR JOINS <br />THE PRESENT CITY CORPORATE LIMITS, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THIS ENTIRE PROPERTY IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DEVELOPED AS A <br />HIGHLY URBANIZED AREA WHICH IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONSTITUTIONAL AND LEGISLATIVE <br />POLICY OF THE STATE OF VIRGINIA SHOULD BE GOVERNED BY THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT <br />OF THE CITY OFCHARLOTTESVtLLE~ AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS A SCARCITY OF VACANT LAND NOW IN THE <br />CORPORATE LIMITS TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FAMILIES DESIRING TO PURCHASE <br />RESIDENCES IN THE ~30,000 AND ~40,000 BRACKET, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, IT APPEARS THAT THOSE PERSONS WHO WILL LIVE IN THE AREA WILL <br /> <br />HAVE IDENTICAL INTERESTS WITH THOSE OF THE PRESENT RESIDENTS OF THE ClTY~ AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THIS AREA APPEARS TO CONSTITUTE A COHPACT BODY OF LAND ADAPTABLE <br />TO CITY GROWTH AND GOMERNMENT~ <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />THAT SINCE AS OF THIS TIME tT APPEARS TO BE IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE CITY TO HAVE <br />SUCH LAND ANNEXED THAT THE CITY ATTORNEY BE AND HE IS HEREBY DIRECTED TO FILE AN <br />ANSWER TO THE PETITION AND TAKE FURTHER ACTION NECESSARY TO PURSUE THE CITY'S BEST <br /> <br />INTERESTS N THIS CAUSE. <br /> <br /> <br />
