CARPENTIER THAT MAYBE SOME COUNCIL AND SCHOOL <br />BOARD MEMBERS ARE NOT IN AGREEMENT BUT HE WAS NOT AWARE OF ANYTHING THAT COULD <br />BE ACCURATELY DESCRIBED AS AN IHPASSE. HE STATED THAT THE SCHOOL BOARDtS <br />REQUEST FOR PURCHASE OF SITES FOR TWO SCHOOLS HAD BEEN THOROUGHLY CONSIDERED AND <br />DISCUSSED , AND THE COUNCIL HAD REQUESTED FURTHER INFORMATION. SOME OTHER <br />PATRONS URGED THE SPEEDY COMPLETION OF DESPERATELY NEEDED SCHOOL FACILITIES. <br /> <br /> A REQUEST FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA TO CLOSE AN UNNAMED STREET BETWEEN <br />LANE ROAD AND JEFFERSON PARK AVENUE WAS REFERRED TO THE PLANNING CO~MISSI'ON FOR <br />RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. MOUNT, SECONDED BY MR.. HAGGERTY, MR. CALVIN DODD WAS <br /> <br />PERMITTED TO WITHDRAW THE PETITION FOR REZONING HIS NAYLOR STREET PROPERTY. <br /> <br /> A PETITION FOR A ZONING CHANGE ON APPLE TREE ROAD WAS REFERRED TO THE <br /> <br /> PLANNING COMMISSION FOR RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM DOWNTOWN CHARLOTTESVILLE, INC. REQUESTING <br /> PERMISSION TO HOLD A SIDEWALK'SALE ON JULY 12TH AND 13TH. ON MOTION BY MR. VOGT, <br /> SECONDED BY MR. RINEHART, THE FOREGOING REQUEST WAS APPROVED. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. MOUNT, SECONDED BY MR. HAGGERTY, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WAS UNANIMOUSLY-ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS,'THE DI. VlSION OF PLANNING, COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, HAS <br /> <br /> ADVISED THAT THIS CITY IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 1970 CITY BLOCK <br /> STATISTICS PROGRAM AND THAT THE STATE PLANNING DEPARTMENT WILL PREPARE THE <br /> NECESSARY HAPS AND WILL ACT AS COORDINATOR FOR THE PROGRAM WITHIN THE .STATE, <br /> AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE DATA TO BE COLLECTED, TABULATED AND MADE AVAILABLE <br /> <br /> BY THIS PROGRAM WOULD BE Of MUCH VALUE TO THIS CITY IN ITS PLANNING STUDIES~ <br /> WORKABLE PROGRAM AND URBAN RENEWAL STUDIES, AND WOULD BE HELPFUL TO THE <br /> SCHOOL BOARD AND THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT IN THEIR WORK, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE ClTYtS SHARE OF THE COST OF THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN <br /> <br /> ESTIMATED TO SE NOT IN EXCESS OF $1200.00, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT THE DIVISION OF PLANNING, COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA~ <br /> BE AND THEY ARE HEREBY RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED TO INCLUDE THIS CITY IN THE <br /> CITY BLOCK STATISTICS PROGRAM FOR THE 1970 CENSUS AND THAT THE CITY OF <br /> CHARLOTTESVILLE HEREBY AGREES TO PAY ~1200o00, OR AS MUCH THEREOF AS MAY <br /> BE NECESSARY, FOR ITS SHARE OF THE PROGRAM FOR THIS CITY, <br /> REPORTS WERE PRESENTED FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDING THAT THE <br /> REQUEST FOR REZONING AT 1310-131~ PRESTON AVENUE AND IN QUEEN CHARLOTTE SUBDIVISION <br /> BE GRANTED. A PUBLIC HEARING WAS SET FOR JUNE 17~ 1968 AT 7:30 P. M. TO CONSIDER <br /> THESE RECOMMENDATIONS. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDING THAT <br /> THE REQUEST TO CLOSE A PORTION OF MERIDIAN STREET BE DENIED. ON MOTION BY MR. <br /> MOUNT, SECONDED BY MR. VOGT~ THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. VOGT~ SECONDED BY MR.
