COUNCIL CHAMBER- June 20, 2005 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS: APPOINTING FIRE CHIEF EMERITUS; PATRICK <br />HENRY AWARD <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown presented the proclamation appointing outgoing Fire Chief Julian <br />Taliaferro as Fire Chief Emeritus <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown announced the Patrick Henry award recently presented to Gary <br />O'Connell by Hampden-Sydney College. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter Kleeman, 407 Hedge Street, said he is a frequent pedestrian on the <br />downtown mall and is concerned about continuing the discussion of a mall crossing. He <br />said he does not think it should be done and it would make the east end of the mall less <br />attractive. Mr. Kleeman also questioned the success of allowing crossing of the mall for <br />delivery purposes. <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch removed the appropriation for the Transit Center from the consent <br />agenda. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati removed the ordinance leasing space on the mall for a newsstand <br />from the consent agenda. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Caravati, the following consent <br />agenda items were approved by the following vote. Ayes: Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. <br />Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. Noes: None. <br /> <br />a. Minutes of June 6 <br /> <br />b. APPROPRIATION: $39,466 - COPS Technology Grant (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville Police Department has received a <br />C.O.P.S. 2005 Technology Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice in the amount of <br />$39,466; <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that <br />the sum of $39,466 received as a grant from the U. S. Department of Justice is hereby <br />appropriated to account 11-270-041196 in the Grants Fund. This appropriation is <br />conditioned upon receipt of $39,466 from the U.S. Department of Justice. <br /> <br />c. APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />$2,113 - Insurance Reimbursement for Damage to Key <br />Recreation Center Landscape Wall (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville Department of Finance has received an <br />insurance reimbursement check in the amount of $2,113.00; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that the sum of $2,113 received as an insurance reimbursement <br />payment is appropriated into account 07-172-072856, for the replacement of a damaged <br />landscape wall at the Key Recreation Center. <br /> <br />d. APPROPRIATION: $67,121.50 - School Construction Grant (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that <br />$67,121.50 received from the City Schools as partial payment of a grant for school <br /> <br /> <br />
