<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Friday, October 20, 2006 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Burnley-Moran Elementary <br />School. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />BURNLEY-MORAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – October 20, 2006 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Absent: Dr. Brown and Ms. Hamilton. <br /> <br /> Ms. Rosa Atkins, Superintendent of City Schools, said that the agenda for the <br />meeting will include bringing Council up to date on the SOL test data and No Child Left <br />Behind. <br /> <br /> Mr. Harley Miles, Supervisor of Assessment for City Schools, said this is a <br />transition year for the schools. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris asked what will happen if accreditation is denied. <br /> <br /> Ms. Gertrude Ivory, Associate Superintendent of City Schools, said that <br />information will be available at a meeting in November. <br /> <br /> Ms. Atkins said that many things can happen, including replacing the <br />Superintendent and teachers. <br /> <br /> Mr. Miles said Adequate Yearly Progress was not made at Johnson, Walker and <br />Buford Schools. He reviewed differential rates for black and white students. He said <br />seven schools are fully accredited. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris asked if data show improvement in achievements of students with <br />similar backgrounds who get pre-school education. <br /> <br /> Mr. Miles said previous data showed that the advantage disappears after about <br />three years. <br /> <br /> Ms. Atkins said that the schools are focusing more now on skills we want students <br />to have. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />____________________________ _____________________________ <br />President Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
