<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, March 19, 2007 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – March 19, 2007 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Taliaferro. Absent: Mr. Norris. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Taliaferro, Council voted to meet in <br />closed session (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: <br />None. Absent: Mr. Norris) for consultation with legal counsel for the provision of legal <br />advice regarding the resolution of a claim through mediation for the collapse of the <br />Juvenile Court building wall; and regarding the City Council’s position and strategy in <br />negotiating an agreement with Albemarle County for the sharing of costs for solid waste <br />disposal, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(7) of the Virginia Code; and discussion of <br />the disposition of City-owned real property at Ridge and Cherry, where a discussion in an <br />open meeting would adversely affect the negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by <br />Section 2.2-3711(A)(3) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Taliaferro, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: <br />None. Absent: Mr. Norris) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only <br />public business matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the <br />Virginia Freedom of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed <br />session were heard, discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – March 19, 2007 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown announced the recent death of Skip Kinnier, a long time employee in <br />Neighborhood Development Services and running enthusiast. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown introduced and welcomed Jenny Dimitrova, an economic development <br />intern from Pleven, Bulgaria. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br />: HARRY TERRELL DAY; POISON PREVENTION <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown presented the proclamation proclaiming Harry Terrell Day in honor of <br />th <br />Mr. Terrell’s 300 victory as the girl’s basketball coach at Charlottesville High School. <br /> <br /> Mr. Terrell recognized the seniors from the basketball team. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown presented the Poison Prevention Month proclamation. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown announced that Charlottesville has been recognized by the National <br />Trust for Historic Preservation as a Distinctive Dozen Designation for 2007. <br /> <br /> <br />
