WEINBERG. <br />ABSENT: NONE. <br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF DECEMBER 7, 1959 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM MR. W. P. WOODWARD REQUESTING A COUNTY <br />REQUEST FOR COUNTY WATER CONNECTION TO THE BUCKINGHAM LINE ON ROUTE 29 SOUTH. ON MOTION BY MR. <br />WATER CONNECTION <br />GRANTED WEINBERG, SECONDED BY MR. $CRIBNER, A 5~8~~ CONNECTION WAS GRANTED UNDER THE USUAL <br />TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COUNTY CONNECTIONS. <br />A COMMUNICATION FROM J. C. AND ANNIE E. MCCLUNG REQUESTING THAT PIEDMONT <br />REQUEST TO ACCEPT <br />PIEDMONT AVE. INTO AVENUE SOUTH OF FONTAINE AVENUE BE ACCEPTED INTO THE CITY STREET SYSTEM WAS <br />CITY ST. SYSTEM REFERRED <br />TO ST. COMM. REFERRED TO THE STREET COMMITTEE FOR STUDY AND RECOMMENDATION. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. $CRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. WEINBERG, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION <br />WAS OFFERED AND CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MEETING FOR CONSIDERATION: <br />RESOLUTION APPROPRIATION BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />RE: QUARTERLY APPROPRIATION <br />CITY & EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES THAT $886,824.97 BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED FOR <br />CARRIED OVER <br />OPERATION OF THE CITY GOYERNMENT AND FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES AS <br />FOLLOWS: $599,935.00 C17Y OPERATION <br />286,889.97 EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE STATE FORESTRY DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDING <br />THAT THE TIMBER IMMEDIATELY SURROUNDING THE RAGGED MOUNTAIN RESERVOIR BE REMOVED <br />MATTER RE: 71MBER AND OFFERING THEIR SERVICES FOR THE SUPERVISION OF THIS PROJECT. ON MOTION BY <br />AT RAGGED MOUNTAIN <br />RESERVOIR MR. DAVIS, SECONDED BY MR. COLEMAN, THE CITY MANAGER WAS AUTHORIZED TO EXECUTE <br />AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE FORESTRY DEPARTMENT TO PROCEED WITH MARKING AND TALLYING THE <br />TIMBER. <br />THE CITY MANAGER ADVISED THE COUNCIL THAT THE TYPE OF STANDARDS APPROVED ON <br />DECEMBER 4, 1959 FOR THE LIGHTS ON THE NEW BELMONT BRIDGE ARE UNAVAILABLE AND <br />RECOMMENDED THEY USE UNION METAL STEEL POLES, DESIGN BOOA, NO. J-300-8 2 WITH <br />G. E. 2O6 B. FLOURESCENT FIXTURES. ON MOTION BY MR. $CRIBNER, SECONDED BY <br />MR. COLEMAN, THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br />THE CITY MANAGER STATED THAT HE HAO BEEN ADVISED BY OFFICIALS OF THE VIRGINIA <br />GAS DISTRIBUTION COMPANY THAT THEY HAD BEEN ADVISED BY A MEMBER OF THE STATE <br />CORPORATION COMMISSION THAT THEY SHOULD INCLUDE IN THEIR APPLICATION FOR A PERMIT <br />MATTER RE: <br />AREA FOR GAS SERVICE TO RENDER GAS SERVICE IN ALBEMARLE COUNTY ALL OF THE NINE MILE AREA THAT WAS <br />REQUESTED BY THE CITY AT THE MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 16, 1959. THE VIRGINIA GAS <br />DISTRIBUTION COMPANY MAD ALSO STATED THAT THEY WERE WILLING TO OMIT THIS AREA BUT <br />FELT THEY WOULD HAVE TO FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF THE STATE CORPORATION COMMISSION, <br />HOWEVER, THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO GIVE THE CITY A CONTRACT AGREEING TO RELINQUISH <br />ANY OF THIS AREA IF AND WHEN THE CITY WISHED TO SERVE ANY OF IT. THE CITY MANAGER <br />STATED THAT HE AND THE CITY ATTORNEY HAO BEEN TO RICHMOND AND DISCUSSED THIS MATTER- <br />WITW A MEMBER OF THE STATE CORPORATION COMMISSION AND AFTER HEARING THE CITY~S SIDE <br />OF THE PROBLEM HAD AGREED THAT IT WOULD BE TO THE PUBLIC INTEREST FOR THE CITY TO <br />SERVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO THE CITY, AND SUGGESTED THAT THE VIRGINIA <br />GAS DISTRIBUTION COMPANY BE REQUESTED TO OMIT FROM THEIR APPLICATION, AN AREA <br />APPROXIMATELY FIVE TO SIX MILES AROUND THE CITY. THE CITY MANAGER STATED THAT IN <br />HIS OPINION IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO WAVE AN OPEN AREA AROUND THE CITY IN TWE EVENT <br />THE CITY EVER DECIDED TO SELL ITS GAS SYSTEM. HE STATED THAT HE HAO AGAIN CONFERRED <br />WITH THE OFFICIALS OF VIRGINIA GAS DISTRIBUTION COMPANY AND THEY HAD AGREED TO FILE <br />
