NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, September 17, 2007 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference Room. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – September 17, 2007 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Mr. Lynch, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) to meet in closed session for 1) consultation with legal counsel regarding the proposed settlement of a subrogation claim by the City pursuant to the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act, where such consultation in an open meeting would adversely affect the negotiating posture of the City, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(7) of the Virginia Code; 2) for discussion or consideration of the acquisition of real property located on Ridge Street and on Bent Creek Road, where discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the bargaining position or negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by Section 2.23711(A)(3) of the Virginia Code; and 3) for discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for appointment by Council to boards and commissions, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code. On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Mr. Lynch, Council certified by the following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, discussed or considered in the closed session. COUNCIL CHAMBER – September 17, 2007 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. ANNOUNCEMENTS Dr. Brown introduced Catherine Tobin, his intern from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. Mr. Lynch announced that there will be a 5 k run/walk on Saturday to benefit Clark Elementary School. Dr. Brown said he will bring up the City Manager’s customer service initiative during Other Business. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS : FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCREDITATION; NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT PROCLAMATION; DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH Dr. Brown announced that the City Fire Department has been awarded the status of Internationally Accredited Fire Service Agency by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
