<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, July 7, 2008 AT 6:15 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – July 7, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Huja, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) to meet in <br />closed session for discussion and consideration of the acquisition of certain real property <br />th <br />located on 5 Street, S.W. for a public purpose, and the disposition of publicly held <br />property located near the intersection of Ridge Street and Cherry Avenue, where <br />discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the bargaining position and <br />negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(3) of the Virginia <br />Code, and for discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for appointment to <br />City boards and commission, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia <br />Code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Dr. Brown, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br />Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – July 7, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Taliaferro said that there will be a fundraiser on Saturday for the African- <br />American Heritage Foundation. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said that the Boys and Girls Club will hold a health fair on Saturday. <br />She said she will be a judge for an arm wresting fund raiser for SARA. She said she will <br />bring up funding for the African-American Cultural Arts Festival during other business. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said he would like to discuss the environmental checklist during other <br />business. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris noted that there will be route changes to CTS starting in August. He <br />said applications for the tax relief programs are now available. <br /> <br />TH <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br />: 100 ANNIVERSARY OF PEPSI-COLA BOTTLING <br />COMPANY OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA; PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />th <br /> Mr. Norris presented a proclamation recognizing the 100 anniversary of the <br />Pepsi Cola bottling Company of Central Virginia and recognizing July as Parks and <br />Recreation Month. <br /> <br /> <br />
