<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Tuesday, September 2, 2008 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provide by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – September 2, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Ms. Edwards, Council voted to meet in <br />closed session (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br />Noes: None) for discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for appointment <br />to City boards and commissions, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia <br />Code; and for discussion and consideration of the disposition of City owned real property <br />located on Ridge Street near its intersection with Cherry Avenue, where discussion in an <br />open meeting would adversely affect the bargaining position or negotiating strategy of <br />the City, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(3) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Ms. Edwards, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br />Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – September 2, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br /> <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris announced that the deadline for the Police Advisory Panel has been <br />extended until October 2, the Council will be holding its annual retreat in Staunton on <br />Friday night and Saturday unless the hurricane hits our area, the City will be hosting a <br /> <br />free concert on September 11th, and the City is looking for the perfect holiday tree. <br /> <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br />: WATER RESOURCES PROTECTION POSTER <br />CONTEST <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Norris announced the winners of the City’s water resources protection poster <br />contest. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris announced, on behalf of the Quality Community Council, that Mr. <br />Marquez Mayo won the contest for naming QCC’s urban farm the “Garden of <br />Goodness.” <br /> <br /> Mr. Karen Waters, Executive Director of QCC, presented certificates of <br />appreciation to Mr. O’Connell for his help with the Earth Day Bike Ride, and to Ms. Judy <br />Mueller, Director of Public Works, for her help with the rainwater harvesting system. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> <br />
