<br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – September 15, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />th <br /> Mr. Norris announced that one lane of Hydraulic Road will close September 18 <br />for stormwater work and there will be an open house about the Meadowcreek stream <br />restoration project on September 24. He thanked Ric Barrick and Joe Rice for their work <br />th <br />on the September 11 concert. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said tickets are available for the NAACP freedom fund banquet; <br />th <br />there will be a “Walk for My Life” event on September 20; and the League of Women <br />th <br />Voters will sponsor a forum on water on September 17. She said she will give an <br />update on the Dredging Task Force during other business. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said he will bring up an anti-idling policy for tour buses during other <br />business. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris announced that the two affordable housing related issues have been <br />removed from the agenda. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br />: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GOING GREEN <br />AWARD; DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH; LITERACY <br />VOLUNTEERS PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris presented the Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Literacy <br />Volunteers proclamations. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris announced that the City’s Meadowcreek Golf Course has been named <br />one of the best places to play golf in the nation by Golf Digest magazine. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris announced the “Going Green” award that was recently given to the <br />City’s Department of Information Technology. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Colette Hall, 101 Robertson Lane, said citizens need a voice at the Dredging <br />Task Force meetings. She said they were allowed to speak at the last meeting. She asked <br />Council to support the Task Force holding a public hearing. She said the Rivanna <br />Reservoir should be dredged rather than building a pipe line, and the height of the dam <br />should only be increased a little. She asked how a regional transit authority will be paid <br />for as money is tight. She said she expects the assessment on her house to decrease next <br />year. <br /> <br /> Dr. Joe Mooney, 201 Sunset Avenue, referred to an article in the Daily Progress <br />about the airport receiving funds for runway extension. He said the opportunity should <br />be taken to use dredged material for the extension and save significant money. He said <br />the Dredging Task Force is delaying the process. He asked why opposition to dredging is <br />so strong. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter Kleeman, 407 Hedge Street, encouraged the City and County to think <br />bigger about a regional transit authority and make it regional. He said federal funds may <br />be available in the future. <br /> <br /> Mr. Collin Hood, representing the U. Va. Student Council, introduced Shannon <br />Smith, also a Student Council representative. He said they look forward to working with <br />Council. <br /> <br /> Ms. Anne Hemenway, 800 Park Street, President of the Lewis and Clark <br />Exploratory Center, thanked Council for funding morning camps. <br /> <br />
