129 <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday, February 8, <br />1995 AT 12:00 noon AT Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center, Rio Road. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />CATEC - February 8, 1995 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Ms. <br />Daugherty, Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br /> Ms. Vicki Behr, Principal of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center <br />(CATEC), described services offered by the school. Half-day programs are offered to both <br />City and Albemarle County students, with a total enrollment of 300, one-third from the City <br />and two-thirds from Albemarle County. Evening adult and apprenticeship programs are <br />offered. Career awareness programs are offered to elementary, middle and high school <br />students, and summer exploratory programs are offered at the middle schools. CATEC <br />works closely with the Monticello Area Community Action Agency on both JobSight and <br />TeenSight, with Piedmont Virginia Community College's Tech Prep program, and with local <br />business and industry. MS. Behr stated that CATEC's mission is to prepare students for entry <br />level jobs and higher education. Ms. Behr stated that new initiatives include expansion of the <br />computer lab and aduk education programs, and video training in conjunction with public <br />access. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Baker, program coordinator for CATEC, reviewed programs offered, noting <br />that many have been developed as a result of suggestions made by the community and <br />businesses. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Toscano about measurement of success, Ms. Behr <br />said state performance evaluations are required, with competencies validated by a local <br />advisory council. Ms. Behr stated that employee surveys are also conducted with businesses <br />who employ CATEC students. <br /> <br />A video promoting CATEC was presented. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - February 21, 1995 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Ms. <br />Daugherty, Rev. Edwardsi Ms. Slaughter, l',/lr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Edward Cooper[ of the Centerfield Group, Dunn Loring, Virginia, stated that he <br />wanted to familiarize Council with his efforts to bring professional baseball to Charlottesville. <br />Mr. Cooper said he hopes Ito bring a Class A minor league club to the Charlottesville <br />community, and is working to identify and acquire a suitable site, 65 to 95 acres if in the <br />County, or 7 1/2 to 10 acr~es if in the City. Mr. Cooper stated that he has just completed a <br />survey which indicates tha1 75% of households surveyed in the area would be interested in <br />attending a minor league game. <br /> <br /> Responding to questions by Mr. Toscano and Ms. Daugherty, Mr. Cooper stated that <br />he is looking for local inv~/stors and may need to find a temporary site in order to begin play <br />by 1997. <br /> <br /> <br />
