292 <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Tuesday, December 12, <br />1995 AT 5:30 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Meeting with the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors to discuss changes <br />in the form of local government structure and related alternatives <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - December 12, 1995 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Ms. <br />Daugherty, Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br />EDUCATION SLrBCOMMITTEE <br /> <br />A resolution regarding City/County cooperative educational efforts was presented. <br /> <br /> Mr. Charles Martin, Albemarle County Supervisor, explained that the resolution <br />contains issues previously discussed by the Board and Council, and represents a first step <br />toward cooperation. Mr. Martin added that the resolution does not limit the City and County <br />school boards on areas of cooperation. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty said she thinks the resolution is a good agreement and comes as a result <br />of a lot of work by staff, Council and the Board. <br /> <br />The County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the resolution. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Slaughter, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, the resolution regarding <br />City/County cooperative educational efforts was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION <br />CITY/COUNTY COOPERATIVE EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Albemarle Board of County Supervisors and the Charlottesville City <br />Council believe that a high priority of their joint efforts is to provide students in both <br />jurisdictions with more educational opportunities within the two public school systems; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, an important by-product of cooperative efforts wilt be in the voluntary <br />opportunities for students to cross school district lines which should lessen the separation <br />along racial and economic lines; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the governing bodies of <br />Albemarle and Charlottesville encourage and support their respective school boards in <br />considering the following educational programming opportunities in order to provide a more <br />efficient and cooperative educational system for the Albemarle/Charlottesville area: <br /> <br />· A magnet program concept, <br /> <br />· Cooperative summer schools and alternative schools, <br /> <br />· Cooperative staff development, <br /> <br />· Cooperative adult education, <br /> <br /> <br />
