Edwards asked what the criteria for teachers would <br />be for the proposed alternative school and expressed concern <br />that the goals of such a program could be met if only 30 <br />students are included initially out of approximately 75 <br />identified as candidates. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty expressed concern that the Child Assault <br />Prevention (CAP) Program was not included in the School Board <br />budget, adding that she felt it is an important prevention <br />program, <br /> <br /> Ms. Seaman replied that the decision to not fund the CAP <br />program was based on the fact that the family life curriculum <br />covers that topic and on the cost of the program. <br /> <br /> Dr. McGeehan added that the schools now have a full-time <br />guidance counselor who can provide the same service as the CAP <br />program. <br /> <br /> Referring to the proposed alternative school, Mr. Hendrix <br />stated that he felt that for the program to be successful and <br />a community effort it would be necessary for someone such as <br />the Superintendent to provide leadership as the program is <br />developed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Smith agreed that the school system should take the <br />lead with regard to the alternative school. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter stated that she would like to explore <br />possible cooperation with Albemarle County with regard to the <br />alternative school° <br /> <br /> Mr. Vandever asked about the trend of enrollment decline <br />between Walker and Buford School and Ms. Seaman stated that <br />she will provide a report on enrollment transfers. <br /> <br /> Rev.
