259 and coordinate those already in existence; and WHEREAS, JAUNT, Inc., through its regional ridesharing division has developed a proposal called "ODYSSEY" to conduct such an operational test project that has been targeted for funding by the Federal Highway Administration. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Charlottesville fully supports conducting the operational test known heretofore as "ODYSSEY" and urges the Board of Directors of JAUNT, Inc., to seriously consider supporting the ODYSSEY project. On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, Council unanimously voted to instruct Ms. Helen Poore, staff representative on the JAUNT Board, to support the Odyssey grant application. OTHER BUSINESS APPROPRIATION: $20,000 - Community Liaison - West Main Street Mr. Hendrix recommended that Council appropriate $20,000 for a 14 month period, through June 30, 1995, to be taken out of FY 93/94 cigarette tax revenue. On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, the appropriation of $20,000 for the Community Liaison for West Main Street was offered and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. Council agreed that the Citizens Advisory Commission for Efficient Government would formally present their reports at a Council meeting and a follow-up work session would held with Councilors and the Commission members. Ms. Slaughter recommended that a suggestion box be provided for citizen comments in City Hall and that periodically these comments be published in "City Notes." Ms. Daugherty announced that the Economic Strategy workshop would be held on April 19th. Rev. Edwards stated that the Darden Towe Memorial Committee continues to work on providing a relief of Mr. Towe for placement in Darden Towe Park. ~eting was adjourned. president COUNCIL CHAMBER - May 2, 1994 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Ms. Daugherty, Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. PUBLIC Ms. Terry Shotwell, owner of two restaurants on the downtown mall, stated that currently 14 newspaper boxes are lined up next to one of her restaurants and requested that Council take action to control the appearance and location of the boxes. Ms. Slaughter noted that the proposed news kiosk may have an impact on the situation and Mr~ Vandever added that Council has also discussed the idea of requiring vendors to rent space in uniform boxes.
