Absent: Rev. Edwards. <br /> <br /> Ms. Linda Seaman, Chair of the School Board, introduced Acting Superintendent of <br />Schools, Dr. Tom Varner. <br /> <br /> Ms. Seaman stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed alternative <br />school. <br /> <br /> Mr. T. Lewis, Project Director for the Alternative School, explained that an interagency <br />group has been meeting regarding the proposed alternative school. Mr. Lewis stated that while <br />there was agreement on the components of the school, it was still unknown what each agency <br />could commit to the schools. Mr. Lewis stated that Region Ten Community Sel~Sces Board has <br />committed a one-half drug counselor, Court Services has cormnitted funds for assessments for <br />students they refer, and other agencies feel more information is needed on the program design. <br />h/h-. Lewis added that a second committee has been dealing with funding for the school, but said <br />two foundations have been approached for funding: one for help with renovations and another for <br />computers. Mr. Lewis stated that negotiations are continuing with Camp Holiday Trails for <br />possible use of the site. <br /> <br /> Responding to questions from Ms. Daugherty and Mr. Vandever, Mr. Lewis stated that <br />necessary staff`for the school at this time include a lead person and four teachers for 30 students, <br />at a cost of approximately $160,000. Mr. Lewis stated that the annual budget for the school is <br />expected to be approximately $455,000. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano asked to whom the lead person would report and what funds would be used <br />to support the program. <br /> <br /> <br />
