256 <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday, <br />January 13, 1993 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Basement Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br /> BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - January 13, 1993 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Ms. Daugherty, Rev, Edwards, Ms. <br />Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br /> The renovations currently under way at Johnson <br />Elementary School were discussed by the Council and School <br />Board. <br /> <br /> The Council and School Board agreed to meet at noon on <br />February 1st to discuss the issue of carryover funds. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br />Presid~ ~-----~ <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - January 19, 1993 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present:Rev. Edwards, Mr. Toscano, Mr. <br />Vandever. Absent: Ms. Daugherty and Ms. Slaughter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Vandever announced that Ms. Daugherty and Ms. <br />Slaughter were attending inauguration activities in <br />Washington. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Lelia Brown, 316 8th St., N.W., referring to a <br />recent drug initiative proposal by the Mayor, raised the <br />following questions: 1) could current police staff be <br />deployed differently and be more effective and could they do <br />paperwork in their cars; 2) was it possible to have house <br />arrest for drug dealers and to use them to clean streets, <br />etc. and are there are proposals for additional educational <br />or preventive methods as well as additional police~ and 3) <br />can the youth curfew be enforced? Ms. Brown stressed that <br />residents want to reclaim their neighborhoods. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Santoski of Sunset Road, President of the <br />Johnson School PTO, requested that renovations scheduled for <br />Carver Recreation Center be delayed until the summer. Mr. <br />Santoski stated that parents were not previously informed of <br />the renovations and there was no guarantee of the safety of <br />the children with Carver open for construction. <br /> <br /> Ms. Gail Wiley of Willard Drive, a parent of a hearing <br />impaired child at Johnson School, stated that construction <br />noise has a deleterious effect on hearing impaired people. <br />Ms. Wiley read a letter from Mr. Bob Garrity expressing <br />safety concerns about the renovations and raising questions <br />about the accessibility of the playground and alternate sites <br />for the senior lunch program. <br /> <br /> Dr. Joseph Mooney of Sunset Avenue, a parent of a child <br />at Johnson School, expressed concern about the renovation of <br />Carver and stated that he did not think the restrictions on <br />truck.access to the site would work. Dr. Mooney stated that <br />he would like the seniors involved in the lunch program to <br />hear parents' concerns to see if they are willing to find a <br />compromise. <br /> <br /> <br />
