Focus on how the ~nd of <br />i__nitiatives are created to get at ~e pre-school issue, other than just adding new classrooms <br />2) Create a cente~oint for ener~ to bring dialogue/focus on !ear_~ng programs; ~d <br />3) Think differently about school to work transition, engaging the business community, and <br />reconceptuali~ng the de!iveu system to prep~e smd_ents for work~ In addition, Dr~ Symons <br />recommended that the school-based question of how to create school attractors be addressed, <br /> <br /> The mee~ng was adjourned. <br />President <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - February 18, 1997 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Mr. <br />Cox, Ms. Daugherty, Ms. Richards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> Mr. George Carter, 1833 Westwood Road, said that the downtown mall is now a <br />vibrant place, due in large part to Colin Rolph and Lee Danielson, developers of the Ice Park <br />and movie theater. Mr. Carter asked that Council allow the lights at the Ice Park to remain <br />since he feels all lights on the mall should not have to be the same, it will cost $25,000 to <br />remove them, and Council should not put up stumbling blocks for the success of the mall. <br /> Mr. Brent Nelson, 214 South Street, asked that Council pass a leash law and see to it <br />that the Police enforce the laws concerning dogs, noting that his leashed dog was recently <br />attached by an unleashed dog on the downtown mall. <br /> Mr. Craig Van der Linde, 1260 Chatham Ridge Road, said that he would like to see the <br /> lights at the Ice Park remain. <br /> Mr. Kenneth Jackson, 208 5th Street, S.W., representing the neighborhoods of <br /> Fifeville, Start Hill, and 10th and Page, asked Council to meet with the neighborhoods to <br /> discuss: 1) deterioration of properties and homes in the neighborhoods; 2) traffic; and <br /> 3) reversion and its effect on citizens' voice and vote. <br /> Mr. John Heyden, Westwood Road, said he has complaints about the public access <br /> studio, he feels retaliatory action is being taken against him, asked why Dell Hanley is <br /> overseeing the public access studio, asked why the Advisory Committee has been disbanded, <br /> and asked what Council is willing to do to correct the problem. <br /> Mr. John Gaines, 214 9th Street, N.W., asked ifCDBG funds are intended to <br /> supplement or supplant Capital Improvement (CIP) fundS. <br /> <br /> <br />
