58 <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Rev. William Johnson of 217 Old Lynchburg Road, <br />complained of the lack of sidewalks, drainage problems and <br />dangerous traffic situation on Old Lynchburg Road. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck requested that staff provide Council a report <br />on the condition of Old Lynchburg Road. <br /> <br /> Mr. Shannon Gimbert of 109 Harris Road, requested that <br />the sign prohibiting through truck traffic on Jefferson Park <br />AVenue be moved to a more visible location. Mr. Gimbert <br />questioned the delay in making a decision regarding a three- <br />way stop sign at the intersection of Harris, Camilla ~and <br />Jefferson Park Avenue and requested additional enforcement to <br />address the speeding traffic problems. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that staff have concerns about the <br />three-way stop sign and are investigating to see if any <br />better solutions exist. Mr. Hendrix noted that a significant <br />enforcement effort would require additional manpower. <br /> <br /> Ms. Wanda Wolf of 2730 Jefferson Park Avenue asked when <br />a decision would be made concerning the three-way stop sign <br />and whether a traffic study of the area would be done. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that staff will have a report on the <br />stop sign in the next few weeks. <br /> <br /> Mr. Chris Miller of 2611 Jefferson Park Avenue, <br />requested the installation of the three-way stop sign, <br />that consideration be given to reworking the intersection, <br />that a traffJ, c study be done and that the speed limit be <br />better marked. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Vandever regarding the <br />intersection of Old Lynchburg Road and Jefferson Park Avenue, <br />Mr. Hendrix stated that the intersection has been studied, <br />but reworking the intersection would necessitate taking a <br />considerable amount of private property. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: SCHOOL BOARD APPOINTMENTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that the public hearing was being held <br />in order to give the public an opportunity to comment on the <br />following applicants for the two vacancies on the School <br />Board: John Pezzoli, Rauzelle Smith, Ruth Barolsky, Roger <br />Fager, and Millie Dixon. <br /> <br /> As there was no one to speak, the public hearing was <br />closed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that appointments to the School Board <br />would be made on June 26th. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: <br /> <br />CERTAIN STREETS <br /> <br />ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THROUGH TRUCK TRAFFIC ON <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the ordinance under <br />consideration would establish truck routes throughout the <br />City and restrict through truck traffic on other streets for <br />trucks exceeding 7,500 pounds registered gross weight. Mr. <br />Hendrix noted that the Director of Public Works and Chief of <br />Police have met with representatives of the trucking industry <br />to hear their concerns about the proposal. <br /> <br /> Ms. Judith Mueller, Director of Public Works, stated <br />that the goal of the proposed ordinance was to keep large <br />trucks out of residential neighborhoods without having a <br />dramatic negative effect on the trucking industry and to have <br />an ordinance which would be reasonable to enforce. <br />Consideration had been given to limiting the number of axles, <br /> <br /> <br />
