271 - NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, June 4, 1990 AT ~7:00 p.m. IN THE City Manager's Office. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: 'Executive session to discuss appointments ~to boards and commissions as exempted by Section 2.1-344(a) of the Virginia Freedom of Information ~Act. BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR ~ ' BY Jeanne~ Cox ~(signed) ~ CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE -~ June 4, 1990 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev~ Edwards, Mr. Towe, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. On motion by Mr. BuCk,i seconded by Mr. Towe, Council voted ~to meet i~ executive session to discuss appointments to the Rivanna Wate~ and Sewer Authority as exempted by Section 2.1-344(a) of the ~Virginia Freedom of Information Act, with Rev. Edwards and Mr. Vandever absent for the vote. Council reconvened in open session and, on motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Buck, unanimously certified that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were discussed in the executive meeting to :which this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public business mattes as were identified in the motion convening the executive meeting were heard, discussed or considered by the CounCil.~ ~ ~COUNCIL CHAMBER June 4, 1990 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev. Edwards and Ms. Waters abstaining. PUBLIC r ~ . ~ Mr. Theodore Lesane of Phase II Housing Corporation, asked Council t~ endorse their low income housing program and encourage private]sector participation. PUBLIC HEARING: SCHOOL BOARD APPOINTMENTS Ms. Waters listed the following applicants for the vacancies on 'the School Board: -Cliff Bennett, Jim Camblos, A1 Elias, Steven Friedman,~Jim Hoff, Frances Johnson,~Joyce Moore~ Linda Seaman, and Cindy Stratton. ~ ~ The public hearing:was opened. Ms. Judy Nielson of 715 Highland Avenue endorsed Ms. Frances Johnson for appointment to the School Board, noting that Westhaven has never been' represented on the Board and Ms. Johnson would]represe~nt ~single parent, low income families. Ms.. DaVe'Breanza s~pported Mr. Steven Friedman for appointment to. the~School Board. Ms. Mary Bower of 324 Caroline Avenue stated that Mr. Steven Friedman would'make a good School Board member because
