63 <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that State funding to school systems <br />throughout the State did not appear to be equal or to have <br />been allocated fairly. <br /> <br /> Dr. Cibbarelli stated that it was not known on what <br />basis the State funding decisions were made. <br /> <br /> It was the consensus of Council that the Mayor write to <br />the State requesting additional funding as soon as the amount <br />of funding Charlottesville would receive was known. <br /> <br /> Dr. Cibbarelli stated that a greater number of students <br />were coming into the City school system with greater needs <br />than in previous years. <br /> <br /> Plans for the City's 100th anniversary celebration were <br />discussed and the Schools were invited to participate. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Dunbar of the school administration, stated that <br />the preliminary plans for Venable Elementary School <br />renovations had been presented to the State Department of <br />Education. <br /> <br /> Mr. Dunbar stated that renovations at Clark are on <br />schedule. <br /> <br /> Mr. Dunbar stated that number of new classrooms at <br />Walker was increased to nine. <br /> <br />Mr. Dunbar stated that work will begin March 1st on the <br /> <br /> a .~planned for Buford. <br />lng was adjourned. <br /> <br /> ~r~iden~ ~rk <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - February 16, 1988 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Towe, the minutes <br />of February 1st were unanimously approved as presented. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Chuck Moran announced the formation of a citizen <br />group, Charlottesville 100, which was making plans to <br />continue the celebration of the City's 100th anniversary of <br />incorporation as a city. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: CHARLOTTESVILLE WELLNESS CENTER SITE PLAN <br /> <br /> Mr. Kurt Wassenaar, architect representing the <br /> Charlottesville Wellness Center, stated that as a condition <br /> of the sale of City property to the Wellness Center, Council <br /> was to approve certain additional aesthetic site plan <br /> elements not usually required. Referring to parcel 96, Mr. <br /> Wassenaar stated that it was felt that adequate lighting <br /> existed on the site, though additional lighting would be <br /> provided if required. Mr. Wassenaar stated that the site <br />'was intended to be left as open green space, with additional <br /> planting and ground cover and a hedge along the residential <br /> area. Mr. Wassenaar stated that a gate for the neighbor's <br /> entrance would be provided as a goodwill gesture. <br /> <br /> <br />
