108 <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - April 18, 1988 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />minutes of the March 30th meeting were unanimously approved <br />as presented. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />minutes of the March 31st meeting were unanimously approved <br />as presented. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />minutes of the April 4th meeting were unanimously approved as <br />presented. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: CHARLOTTESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM <br /> <br /> Mr. Kenneth Leatherwood, Coach of the Charlottesville <br />High School Basketball Team, introduced members of the team. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Dr. Hall, Council <br />unanimously adopted a resolution congratulating the CHS <br />Basketball Team on their successful season. <br /> <br /> .. WHEREAS, the Charlottesville High School Basketball Team <br />had an incredible 25-2 record during its 1987-88 season, <br />surpassing the previous year's historic record; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville High School Basketball Team <br />was led to victory under the leadership of Head Coach Kenneth <br />Leatherwood and his Assistant Coaches Harry Terrell <br />(Varsity), Mitch Minor (Junior Varsity), and Cy Weaver (9th <br />Grade)~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville High School Basketball Team <br />won the regular season Valley District Title, the Valley <br />District Tournament Championship, the Region II Championship, <br />and went on to the semi-finals in the State Tournament; and <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia would like to join the entire <br />community in recognizing the outstanding talent of the entire <br />Basketball Team, led by Co-Captains Daryle Dooms and Victor <br />Lockley, and congratulate the team on its tremendously <br />successful season. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br /> <br />RESTAURANT <br /> <br />RENEWING OUTDOOR CAFE PERMIT FOR HARDWARE STORE <br /> <br /> Mr. Stan Epstein, owner of the Hardware Store <br />Restaurant, requested that Council renew the <br />restaurant's outd. oor cafe permit for three years to be added <br />on to the year remaining on the present permit. Mr. Epstein <br />stated that he was making the request prior to investing in <br />additional remodeling and equipment for the cafe. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that he would agree to renewing the <br />permit for a three-year period but did not feel it was <br />appropriate to grant a permit for a longer time period. <br /> <br /> Following a discussion of the date by which the oUtdoor~ <br />cafes should be operational, it was agreed that the permit <br />would include a provision stating that Council could revoke a <br />permit with two weeks' notice if the cafe was not operational <br /> <br /> <br />
