125 <br /> <br />for consideration. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters'by the public. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Dr. Hall raised concerns about pedestrian safety on <br />South Street. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that he would have the traffic <br />consultant look into the situation. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, <br /> Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session to <br /> discuss personnel matters as exempted by Section 2.1-344 <br /> (a)~.l) of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. <br />/~~h~eting was adjourned. ~ <br /> PresidentC ~ <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday, <br />May 11, 1988 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - May 11, 1988 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason~ Mr. Towe. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Dunbar, from the School administration, stated <br />that all construction projects are on schedule. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Pezzoli, Chairman of the School Board, stated <br />that a committee has been developing new ideas and plans for <br />improved community relations. <br /> <br /> Ms. Emily Couric, School Board member, listed the <br />following goals proposed in the Community Relations <br />Action Plan: 1) To establish and maintain parental <br />involvement in the schools; 2) Strengthen ties with citizens <br />who are not parents of public school children; 3) Publicize <br />information about the schools) and 4) Encourage all school <br />personnel to practice good community relations. <br /> <br /> Ms. Andrea Robinson, Community Relations Coordinator, <br />stated that some recommendations of the plan have already <br />been implemented. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck recommended that contact between PTOs and the <br />Schools Board, especially through informal functions, be <br />increased. <br /> <br /> Ms. Couric noted that PTOs have a representative attend <br />School Board and Central Council meetings and that School <br />Board members are encouraged to attend PTO meetings. <br /> <br />Mr. Towe questioned plans for Alternative Education. <br /> <br /> <br />
