162 <br /> <br /> Dr. Vincent Cibbarelti, Superintendent of.Schools, <br />stated that alternate plans are being developed in case <br />Clark is not completed on schedule. Dr. Cibbarelli stated <br />that the most likely option presently being considered is to <br />delay the ~beginning of school for Clark students only and <br />make up the time by extending the school day and using <br />teacher workdays. Dr. Cibbarelli stated that a definite <br />decision will be made by the middle of August. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Pezzoli, Chairman of the School Board, stated <br />that the School Board will hold a study session to conduct a <br />full scale review of the programs and plans for the <br />reorganization of the middle schools on August 18th and <br />invited Council members to attend. <br /> <br /> Dr. Cibbarelli stated that the CLAS/S (After School) <br />Program will be extended to Walker School in September and <br />the program will remain the same elsewhere, with a slight <br />increase in cost. <br /> <br /> A discussion was held concerning the purpose of the <br />regular monthly lunch meetings of Council and the School <br />Board. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pezzoli stated that the felt the meetings were a <br />valuable opportunity to keep an open dialogue between the <br />Council and the School Board which helps improve harmony and <br />cooperation. <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters agreed that the meeting were valuable and <br />should be continued. <br /> <br /> Dr. Cibbarelli stated that a Coordinator/Counselor has <br />been hired for the Alternative Education Program and that a <br />grant has been received to help hire additional staff and <br />provide additional equipment. Dr. Cibbarelli stated that an <br />additional grant may be received for the Program. <br /> <br /> Dr. Cibbarelli stated that a four-year old program <br />funded with Chapter I money will begin in September, with a <br />small number of students who are now being identified <br />participating. Dr. Cibbarelli stated that he is hopeful <br />that the program can be expanded in the future. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Towe, Mr. Dunbar <br />stated that the track at Charlottesville High School should <br />be completed in August. Mr. Dunbar added that the tennis <br />courts at CHS are also being resurfaced. <br /> <br />The_meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - July 18, 1988 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev. Edwards, Mr. <br />Towe, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Buck, the minutes of the June 29th <br />meeting were approved as presented, with Rev. Edwards, Mr. <br />Towe, Mr. Vandever, and Ms. Waters abstaining. <br /> <br /> On mOtion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Towe, the <br />minutes of the July !st meeting were Unanimously approved as <br />presented. <br /> <br /> <br />
