<br />Minutes, May 24, 2019 Page 1 <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />City of Charlottesville Electoral Board <br />Meeting of May 24, 2019 <br /> <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 8:30 am on Friday, May 24, 2019 in the <br />Basement Conference Room of the Charlottesville City Hall. Those present were <br />Electoral Board members Anne Hemenway (Chair), Jon Bright (Vice Chair) and Jim Nix <br />(Secretary) and the Human Resources Director for the City of Charlottesville Galloway <br />Beck. <br /> <br />The sole purpose of this meeting was to interview candidates for the position of <br />Charlottesville General Registrar. <br /> <br />This meeting was not open to the public. <br /> <br />Closed Session to Interview Candidates for the Position of General Registrar <br /> <br />On a motion by the Chair, seconded by the Vice Chair, the Electoral Board voted (Ayes: <br />Anne Hemenway, Jon Bright and Jim Nix; Noes: None; Absent: None) to meet in closed <br />session as authorized by Va. Code sec. 2.2-3712, specifically: <br /> <br />Virginia Code Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) for the conduct of interviews of prospective <br />candidates for appointment as General Registrar and Director of Elections for the <br />City of Charlottesville, Virginia. <br /> <br />Four candidates were interviewed and each of the candidates was allowed to remain in <br />the closed meeting for the time assigned to his or her interview. Mr. Beck was present <br />for all the interviews. <br /> <br />On a motion by the Chair, seconded by the Vice Chair, the Electoral Board certified by <br />the following vote (Ayes: Anne Hemenway, Jon Bright and Jim Nix; Noes: None; <br />Absent: None) that to the best of each Board member’s knowledge only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act and identified in the Motion convening the closed session were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 pm. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted: <br /> <br /> <br />
