Minutes, June 4, 2019 Page 1 <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />City of Charlottesville Electoral Board <br />Meeting of June 4, 2019 <br /> <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 5:52 pm on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in <br />the office of the Charlottesville General Registrar. Those present were Electoral Board <br />members Anne Hemenway (Chair), Jon Bright (Vice Chair) and Jim Nix (Secretary), <br />General Registrar Rosanna Bencoach and Election Manager Melissa Morton. <br /> <br />On a motion by the Chair, seconded by the Vice Chair, the agenda was approved <br />unanimously without change. <br /> <br />On a motion by the Chair, seconded by the Vice Chair, the minutes of the April 3, 17, <br />22-24, 24 and May 2, 13 and 24 meetings were approved unanimously without change. <br /> <br />Public Comment <br /> <br />No members of the public were present for this meeting. <br /> <br />Registrar’s Report <br /> <br />The Registrar reported that preparation for the June 11 Primary is going smoothly. Ms. <br />Bencoach also reported on the departure of two members of the staff creating <br />vacancies to be filled following the appointment of a new General Registrar. <br /> <br />Discussion Items <br /> <br />The Election Manager reported that there are still some last-minute issues regarding <br />preparation for the Primary to include the appointment of a chief for the absentee <br />precinct and the repair of a phone line at one precinct but, in general, preparation is on <br />schedule. In response to a surge in absentee voting additional absentee ballots were <br />printed on June 4 and additional Election Day ballots will be printed on June 6. <br /> <br />Closed Session to Discuss Applicants for General Registrar <br /> <br />On a motion by the Chair, seconded by the Vice Chair, the Electoral Board voted (Ayes: <br />Anne Hemenway, Jon Bright and Jim Nix; Noes: None; Absent: None) to meet in closed <br />session as authorized by Va. Code sec. 2.2-3712, specifically: <br /> <br />For the discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for the Office of <br />General Registrar and Director of Elections for the City of Charlottesville, Virginia <br />as authorized by Va Code sec. 2.2-3711(A)(1).
