Regular meeting <br /> <br />Approval of minutes <br /> <br />Appointment re: <br />Thomas Jefferson Planning <br />District - Regional <br />Housing Committee <br /> <br />Appointment re: <br />Social Development <br />Commission <br /> <br />Request re: School <br />Board - Charlottesville <br />High School Improvements <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Charlottesville High <br />School Track Team <br /> <br />Presentation re: TJPDC <br />Regional Crime Justice <br />Plan <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - MONDAY, JUNE 7, 1976 <br /> <br /> The Council met in regular session on this date <br />with the fOllowing members present: Mr. Barbour, Mr. <br />Fife, Mr. Gilliam, Mrs. Rinehart and Mr. Van Yahres. <br />Absent: None. <br /> <br /> The minutes of the meetings of May 17 and 26, 1976 <br />were approved as corrected. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Van Yahres, Mr. Richard Collins <br /> <br /> and Mr. Jesse Williams were appointed to the Thomas <br /> Jefferson District - Regional Housing Committee. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Fife, Mr. Steve WEight, was appointed <br /> to the Social Development Commission, by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Mr. Richard Jennings, Acting Chairman of the School <br /> Board, addressed the Council on behalf of the School Board <br /> and the School Administration and requested approval to <br /> engage an architect to prepare, working drawings and contract <br /> documents for needed additions to the athletic facilities <br /> at Charlottesville High School. He stated that if <br /> approved this architecnural service would not exceed <br /> <br /> ~41 <br />~ ,500. After a lengthy discussion, a motion by Mr. Fife, <br /> <br />seconded by Mrs. Rinehart that a joint work session between <br /> <br />th <br /> e Council and the School Board be set to discuss this <br /> <br />project, was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mrs. Rinehart the <br />following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 1976 Charlottesville High School <br />Track Team was undefeated in its regular season <br />competition; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Team was undefeated in the Roanoke <br />and E. C. Glass relays, the Dogwood Invitational meet, <br />the Commonwealth District Meet, the Northwestern Regional <br />Meet, and the Virginia Triple-A State Meet; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 1976 Team is the first in the City's <br />history to win a state track championship; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council <br />of the City of Charlottesville, in behalf of all the <br />citizens of the Cit'y, expresses its congratulations to <br />each of the members of the 1976 Charlottesville High <br />School Track Team; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER ~RESOLVED THAT the Council expresses <br />its congratulations to Track Coach Tommy Theodose, <br />Assistant Coach Curtis Elder, and Charlottesville Supervisor <br />of Interscholastic Athletics Willie Barnett; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Council commends <br />the team for its outstanding effort and sportsmanship and <br />in bringing recognition to the community's youth and <br />school system. <br /> <br /> Mr. Samuel V. Pruitt, Criminal Justice Planner of the <br />Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, addressed <br />the Council and presented the Planning District Commission's <br />Regional Plan for Improvement of the Criminal Justiee <br /> <br />System as prepared by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District <br />Commission.
