Mayor re: 1% Meal <br />Tax on Restaurants <br /> <br />Executive Session <br /> <br /> of Piedmont Little League also addressed the Council in favor of <br /> the fence. He stated that a temporary fence was unsatisfactory <br /> and also dangereous. The Mayor announced that this matter would <br /> be discussed at the meeting on Wednesday after the Council has an <br /> opportunity to view the site. <br /> <br /> The Mayor stated that she is concerned that the proposed budget <br /> <br />is financed out of the carry over balance and there are no funds <br />for special appropriations. She stated that she will propose a <br />tax on restaurant, meals of one percent and wanted to give the public <br />and Council an opportunity to think about it. <br /> <br /> A motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Gatewood that the Council <br /> <br />meet in executive session to discuss a matter exempted by Section <br />2.1-344(a)(1) of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, was adopted <br />by the following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Brunton, <br />Mr. Fife, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Absent: None. <br /> <br /> A public hearing was held on this date on the proposed City and <br />School Budgets for fiscal year 1977-78. <br /> <br /> The City Manager reported that he has discussed the fence at <br />Forrest Hill's Park with the people in the neighborhood and they <br />expected another meeting before construction on the fence was <br />resumed. He stated that he will meet with the neighborhood people <br />next week to get their reaction. <br /> <br /> The Mayor then afforded anyone present an opportunity to speak <br />either for or against the proposed budgets. <br /> <br /> <br />
