MAYORtS STATEMENT RE: <br />SCHOOLS <br /> <br />WELFARE REPORT PRESENTED <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING RE: REZONE <br />NASSAU STREET <br /> <br />REQUEST RE: SHAMROCK RD. <br /> <br />REPORT RE: <br />HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION <br /> <br /> THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT WAS MADE BY THE MAYOR: <br /> <br /> IN WORKSHOP SESSIONS WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD It WAS STATED THAT tT IS <br />NECESSARY FOR THE COUNCIL TO GIVE DIRECTION TO THE SCHOOL BOARD WITH REGARD TO <br />THE POSSIBLE EXPANSION Of THE CITYIS BOUNDARIES. WITH THIS IN HIND IT IS THE <br />OPINION OF THIS COUNCIL THAT f TWO HIGH SCHOOLS ARE TO BE BUILT EACH SCHOOL <br />SHOULD HAVE CORE FACILITIES DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE 1500 STUDENTS AND CLASSROOM <br />FACILITIES TO ACCOMMODATE 1200 STUDENTS IF SUCH SCHOOLS ARE TO BE OPERATIONAL IN <br />THE FALL OF 1972. <br /> <br /> HR, VOGT ALSO STATED THAT THE COUNCIL WOULD DEAL WITH THE RESOLUTIONS FROM <br />THE SCHOOL BOARD AT THE NEXT REGULAR HEETING. <br /> <br /> THE WELFARE REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER~ 1968 WAS PRESENTED AND ORDERED <br /> <br />FILED WITH THE MINUTES OF THIS MEETING. <br /> ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br /> <br />CLERK ~--~ <br /> <br />COUNCl L CHAMBER - JANUAR'~"/6, 1969 <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL MET iN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING mEMBERS <br /> <br />PRESENT: HR, DAVlS~ MR. GIVENS~ PASTOR OF JEFFERSON PARK BAPTIST CHURCH~ GAVE THE <br /> <br />INVOCATION. <br /> <br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF DECEMBER 16~ 1968 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br /> <br /> A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS DATE ON a REQUEST TO REZONE PARCELS 79 AND 79/1 <br /> <br />ON THE SOUTHEAST SIDE OF NASSAU STREET FROM R-2 RESIDENTIAL TO H-t INDUSTRIAL. A <br />COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE PLANNING COHMISSION RECOMMENDING THAT THE <br />PROPERTY BE REZONED TO B-3 BUSINESS. HR. CARROLL WRIGHT ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL IN <br />SUPPORT OF THE PETITION, SINCE THERE WAS SOME QUESTION ABOUT THE ADdACENT ZONING~ <br />ACTION ON THIS REQUEST WAS DEFERRED UNTIL THE NEXT HEETING. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM PRESTON A. COINER REQUESTING THAT CONSIDERATION <br /> <br />BE GIVEN TO iMPROVING SHAMROCK ROAD FROM THE SOUTHERN RAILROAD TO CHERRY AVENUE. MRo <br />COINER ALSO ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL IN SUPPORT OF THE REQUEST, THIS HATTER WAS REFERRED <br />TO THE STREET COHMITTEE FOR INVESTIGATION AND REPORT. <br /> <br />THE FOLLOWING COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION: <br />THE CHARLOTTESVILLE HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION AT IT'S MEETING ON HONDAY~ <br />DECEMBER 23~ 1968 ADOPTED A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO IMPROVE POliCE TRAFFIC SERVICES <br />FOR THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE. $PECIFICALLY~ THE PROGRAM WILL (~) TRAIN <br />INSTRUCTOR OR INSTRUCTORS NEEDED TO CONDUCT IN-SERVICE TRAINING COURSES. <br />(2) ESTABLISH A THIRTY (30) HOUR IN-SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAH ON A FORMAL <br /> <br />AND PLANNED BASIS FOR ALL POLICE OFFICERS ASSIGNED TO TRAFFIC.
