A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SPOKE IN FAVOR OF THIS ORDINANCE. AFTER <br /> <br />A LENGTHY DISCUSSION, ON MOTION BY MR. VAN YAHRES, SECONDED BY MRS. RINEHART ACTION WAS <br />DEFERRED UNTIL A WORK SESSION COULD BE HELD. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. VAN YAHRES, SECONDED BY HRS. RINEHART THE COUNCIL VOTED TO GO INTO <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE LITIGATION AND PERSONNEL MATTERS, BY THE FOLLOWING <br /> <br />RECORDED VOTE. AYES: HR. BARBOUR, HR. FIFE, HR. RINEHART. <br /> <br /> A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS DATE ON THE REQUEST OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE REDEVELOPMENT <br />AND HOUSING AUTHORITY FOR APPROVAL OF SIX PROPOSED LOW-RENT HOUSING SITES. EACH SITE WAS <br />DISCUSSED SEPARATELY THE FIRST BEING HADISON AVENUE, HR. EDGAR PURYEAR, JR., ADDRESSED THE <br />COUNCIL ON BEHALF OF THE WOODLAWN HOME OWNERS ASSOCIATION IN OPPOSITION TO THE HADISON AVENUE <br />SITE BEING USED FOR PUBLIC HOUSING. A NL~BER OF PEOPLE ALSO ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL FROM THE <br /> <br />AREA IN OPF~3SITION AND REMINDED THE COUNCIL THAT THIS LAND IS PRONE TO FLOODING. <br /> <br /> THE NEXT SITE DISCUSSED THE CHESAPEAKE - SHORT 18TH STREET, HR. FORBES REBACK, ATTORNEY <br /> <br />FOR THE PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE AREA ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL IN OPPOSITION TO THESE SITES. HR. <br /> <br />REBACK PRESENTED A PETITION SIGNED BY 347 PERSONS IN OPPOSITION TO THESE SITES. THE PEOPLE <br /> <br />IN THE AREA RECOMMENDED AN ALTERNATE SITE CALLED THE RIVERSIDE OR JESSUP SITE AND STRONGLY <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED THAT THIS SI71E BE USED INSTEAD OF THE CHESAPEAKE - SHORT 18TH STREET. <br /> <br /> THE CLEVELAND AVENUE SITE WAS NEXT DISCUSSED. HR. HIBBERT KLINE, III, ADDRESSED THE <br /> COUNCIL IN OPPOSITION TO THIS SITE AND PRESENTED A PETITION WITH 243 SIGNATURES IN OPPOSITION. <br /> <br /> HR. KLINE STATED THAT THIS SITE IS ALSO PRONE TO FLOODING. HR. LAWRENCE HERBERT ADDRESSED THE <br /> <br /> OOUNCIL AND REQLESTED THAT THE NL~4BER OF UNITS BE REDUCED FROM 12 TO 8. A NL~BER OF PEOPLE <br /> ALSO ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL IN OPPOSITION. <br /> <br /> NO ONE APPEARED FOR OR AGAINST THE PROPOSED 6TH STREET, S.E. AND HICHIE DRIVE SITES. <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. VAN YAHRES, SECONDED BY HR.
