HAGGERTY, HR. MOUNT~ MR. PONTON~ HR. RENNOLDS AND MR. SCRIBNER. ABSENT: NONE. <br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF AUGUST 2~ 1965 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br /> <br /> HR. DON HEYNE ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL ON BEHALF OF THE GREATER CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />ASSOClATION~ INC. AND REQUESTED THAT THE COUNCIL REQUEST THE HOUSING AUTHORITY TO MAKE <br />A FEASIBILITY STUDY OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA. HE ALSO REQUESTED THAT OUR STATE SENATOR <br />AND DELEGATE BE REQUESTED TO SECURE AN AMENDMENT TO THE REDEVELOPMENT SECTION OF THE <br />VIRGINIA STATE CODE ADDING CHARLOTTESVILLE TO THE LIST OF CITIES IN THE STATE PERMITTED <br />TO CARRY OUT REHABILITATION AND CONSERVATION PROJECTS UNDER URBAN RENEWAL. A RESOLUTION <br />WAS PRESENTED FROM THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ENDORSING THESE PROPOSALS. A MOTION BY HR. <br />SCRIBNER~ SECONDED BY HR. RENNOLDS THAT THE COUNCIL ACCEPT THE PROPOSALS OF THE GREATER <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE ASSOCIATION, INCo AND ASSURE THE ASSOCIATION OF THE COUNCILIS COOPERATION <br />TOWARDS THEIR AIMS, AND TO STUDY THE REQUIREMENTS OF APPLYING FOR FUNDS FOR THE <br />FEASIBILITY STUDY} WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> MR. O. H. ROBERTS AGAIN ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL WITH REFERENCE TO THE SALES TAX. <br /> <br />MR. ROBERTS ALSO REQUESTED THAT THE COUNCIL MEETINGS BE TAPED FOR LATER BROADCAST~ HOWEVER~ <br />NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REQUESTING THAT CONSIDERATION <br />BE GIVEN TO PROVIDING ANOTHER EXIT AT MCINTIRE PARK~ WEST OF THE SOUTHERN RAILWAY. THE <br />CliTY MANAGER STATED THAT THE BY-PAss IS A LIMITED ACCESS ROAD CONTROLLED BY THE STATE <br />HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT, AND THAT PLANS ARE NOW BEING PREPARED FOR FOUR LANING THE REMAINDER <br /> <br />OF THE BY-PASS INSIDE THE CiTY AND WHEN COMPLETED A LEFT TURN LANE WILL BE PROVlDED~ WHICH <br />SHOULD GREATLY IMPROVE THE SITUATION. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. HAGGERTY~ SECONDED BY MRo RENNOLDS, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS <br />UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON AUGUST 2~ 1965 AT A REGULAR MEETING OF <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE AS REQUIRED BY THE CITY CHARTER ON THE APPLICATION <br />BY THE CHARLOTTESVILLE REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A PUBLIC <br />HOUSING PROJECT TO THE EAST OF RIDGE STREET AND SOUTH OF HARTMANS MILL ROAD KNOWN AS THE <br />RIDGE LANE PROJECT, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ AT THIS PUBLIC HEARING A PETITION SIGNED BY APPROXIMATELY EIGHT <br /> <br />HUNDRED (800) PERSONS WAS TENDERED TO COUNCIL~ AND <br /> <br />WHEREAS~ A ~,ERIFICATION OF THE PERSONS WHO HAD SIGNED THIS PETITION AS TO <br />WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTES~/ILLE HAS BEEN MADE <br /> <br /> <br />
