HAGGERTY TO THIS COMMITTEE. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD REQUESTING THE COUNCIL TO <br />PROVIDE FUNDS FOR ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES OF A PRELIMINARY NATURE LEADING TO A <br />RELATIVELY FIRM COST ESTIMATE FOR NEW HIGH SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION~ LANE HIGH SCHOOL <br />RENOVATION AND RENOVATION TO EXISTING ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. AFTER A LENGTHY DISCUSSION~ <br />A MOTION BY MR. MOUNT, SECONDED BY MR. HAGGERTY~ THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD BE AUTHORIZED <br />TO EMPLOY ARCHITECTS AS REQUESTED WAS DEFEATED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: AYES: MR. MOUNT <br />AND MR. RENNOLDS. NOES: MR. HAGG~RTY AND MR. VOGTo <br /> <br /> A MOTION BY MR. VOGT~ SECONDED BY MR'. HAGGERTY~ THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD BE REQUESTED <br />TO RESUBMIT ITS REQUEST, REQUESTING FUNDS OF A SPECIFIC LIMIT FOR ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES <br />WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> FOR THE PURPOSE OF INFORMING THE PUBLIC,THE MAYOR STATED THAT RECENTLY HE HAD A <br />MEETING WITH CERTAIN NEGRO LEADERS AT WHICH A LIST OF PROPOSALS WAS MADE BY THEM. <br />SEVERAL OF THE MATTBRS WERE OUTSIDE THE dURISDICTION OF CITY COUNCIL, AND HE HAD THE <br />CLERK READ AN OPINION FROM THE CITY ATTORNEY THAT SUCH MATTERS WERE OUTSIDE THE COUNCILIS <br />CONTROL, TOGETHER WITH LETTERS THAT HE HAD MAILED TO THE GOVERNOR~ CITY TREASURER~ <br />COMMISSIONER OF REVENUE AND CITY SERGEANT, WHICH LETTERS ARE FILED AS PART OF THE MINUTES <br />OF THIS MEETING.
