DR. W. COPLEY <br /> MCLEAN~ CHAIRMAN OF THE SCHOOL BOARD~ AND DR. EDWARD W. RUSHTON ADDRESSED THE <br /> COUNCil AND DISCUSSED THE ITEMS PROPOSED FOR ADJUSTMENT. ON MOTION BY MR. MOUNT, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING NEED FOR LOW-RENT HOUSING ADOPTED <br /> BY THE COb~CIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE ON <br /> FEBRUARY 5, 1968 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, IT IS THE POLICY OF THIS LOCALITY TO ELIMINATE SUBSTANDARD <br /> <br />AND OTHER INADEQUATE HOUSING, TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF SLUMS AND BLIGHT, AND <br />TO REALIZE AS SOON AS FEASIBLE THE GOAL OF A DECENT HONE IN A SUITABLE LIVING <br />ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL OF ITS CITIZENS; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE UNITED STATED HOUSING ACT OF t937, AS AMENDED, PROVIDES <br /> <br />THAT THERE SHALL BE LOCAL DETERMINATION OF NEED FOR LOW-RENT HOUSING TO MEET <br /> <br />NEEDS NOT BEING ADEQUATELY MET BY PRIVATE ENTERPRISE; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ LOW-RENT HOUSING IS NEEDED TO ASSIST IN MEETING THE HOUSING <br /> <br />GOAL OF THIS LOCALITY; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE APPLI. CATtON OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE REDEVELOPMENT AND <br /> <br />HOUSING AUTHORITY AS REQUIRED BY SAID UNITED STATES HOUSING ACT~ WAS HERETOFORE <br />APPROVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA ON DECEMBER 7, <br /> <br />1964; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE it RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE~ VIRGINIA AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> THERE STILL EXISTS IN THE CiTY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE~ VIRGINIA A NEED <br /> <br />FOR LOW-RENT HOUSING AT RE~TS WITHIN THE MEANS OF LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. <br /> <br /> <br />
