ABSENT; MR. DAVIS. <br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF SEPTEMBER 23, 1957 ANO SEPTEMBER 26, 1957 WERE <br />READ AND APPROVED. <br />THE PETITION OF SEARS, ROEBUCK AND COMPANY REQUESTING PERMISSION TQ OPERATE <br />REQUEST TO OPERATE AN OiL FILLING STATION AT THEIR NEW STORE ON WEST MAIN STREET, WHICH WAS PRESENTED <br />OIL FILLING STATION <br />SEARS, ROEBUCK & CO. TO THE COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 23, 1957, WAS AGAIN CONSIDERED. NO ONE APPEARED FOR <br />GRANTED. <br />OR AGAINST THE PETITION. ON MOTION BY MR. WEINBERG, SECONDED BY MR. COLEMAN, THE <br />FOREGOING REQUEST WAS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE HERTZ CORPORATION PROTESTING THE FOR <br />MATTER RE: FOR HIRE HIRE FEE FOR AUTOMOBILE LICENSES CHARGED ON THEIR RENTAL CARS, AND REQUESTING A <br />AUTO FEE REFERRED TO <br />CITY MGR. & CITY ATTY. REFUND FOR THIS FEE. ON MOTION BY MR. SCRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. WEINBERG, THIS <br />MATTER WAS REFERRED TO THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY FOR INVESTIGATION AND <br />REPORT, <br />THE REQUEST OF THE SALVATION ARMY FOR SOME RELIEF OF 1948 PROPERTY TAXES tN <br />MATTER RE: PROPERTY TAXES THE AMOUNT OF 69.75 AND PENALTIES ANO INTEREST OF 54.06 WA5 AGAIN CONSIDERED. THE <br />PENALTIES AND INTEREST - <br />SALVATION ARMY CITY ATTORNEY RECOMMENDED THAT THE PENALTIES AND INTEREST BE FORGIVEN. ON MOTION <br />BY MR. WEINBERG, SECONDED BY MR. SCRIBNER, THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS <br />UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE WESTERN UNION TELEGRAPH COMPANY <br />MATTER RE: LIABILITY INS. <br />ON SIGN - WESTERN UNION REQUESTING PERMISSION TO DISCONTINUE THE LIABILITY INSURANCE POLICY ON THE SIGN ON <br />REQUEST DENIED. <br />THEIR BUILDING AT 512 E. MAIN STREET, AND POST THEIR OWN SELF INSURED BOND. ON <br />MOTION BY MR. COLEMAN, SECONDED BY MR. WEINBERG, THIS REQUEST WAS DENIED. <br />ON MOTION BY MR, SCRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. BE AND THEY ARE HEREBY AUTHORIZED TO EXECUTE A CERTAIN AGREEMENT OF EASEMENT <br />TO BEAR DATE AS OF OCTOBER 7, 1957, CONVEYING TO THE VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND <br />POWER COMPANY, A CORPORATION ORGANIZED AND EXISTING UNDER THE LAWS OF THE <br />STATE OF VIRGINIA, A RIGHT OF WAY ACROSS THE PROPERTY OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE, AS SHOWN BY PLAT BEARING NO. CH-2370, EXHIBITED TO THE <br />CITY COUNCIL, SAME TO BE SIGNED BY THE MAYOR ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE AND ATTESTED AND SEAL AFFIXED BY THE CLERK. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. ELEC. & POWER CO. <br />COMPANY, A CORPORATION ORGANIZED AND EXISTING UNDER THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF <br />VIRGINIA, AN ELECTRIC POWER LINE AND RIGHT OF WAY ACROSS THE SEVERAL PROPERTIES <br />AS SHOWN ON ATTACHED PLAT BEARING NO.
