DAVIS ~SIGNED~ <br />PRESIDENT <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN SPECIAL SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: MR. COLEMAN, MR. DAVIS, MR. MICHIE, MR. SCRIBNER AND <br />MR. WEINBERG. ABSENT: NONE. <br />A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED NEW ZONING ORDINANCE WAS HEyD ON <br />PUBLIC HEARING RE: THIS DATE AT THE ALBEMARLE COUNTY COURT HOUSE. A NUMBER OF PEOPLE SPOKE <br />PROPOSED NEW ZONING ORDINANCE. <br />BOTH FOR AND AGAINST THE PROPOSED CHANGES, HOWEVER NO ACTION WAS TAKEN <br />PENDING FURTHER STUDY. <br />ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br />r <br />CLERK PRESIDENT <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - JANUARY 21, 1958 <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: MR. COLEMAN, MR. DAVIS, MR. MICHIE, MR. SCRIBNER AND <br />MR. WEINBERG. ABSENT: NONE. <br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF JANUARY 6, 1958, JANUARY 8, 1958 AND <br />JANUARY 9, 1958 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br />MR. JACK MARTIN AND MR. HOVEY DABNEY, MEMBERS OF THE CITY ELECTORAL <br />BOARD, ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL WITH REFERENCE TO THE PURCHASE OF VOTING MACHINES <br />FOR THE CITY. MR. MARTIN ALSO RECOMMENDED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ADDITIONAL <br />MATTER RE: VOTING MACHINES <br />VOTING PLACES IN THE CITY. MR. ALLAN N. SPITZER ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL ON <br />BEHALF OF THE CITY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE AND HEARTILY ENDORSED MR. MARTIN S <br />RECOMMENDATIONS. A MOTION BY MR. MICHIE, SECONDED BY MR. WEINBERG THAT <br />THE COUNCIL FAVORS THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE ELECTORAL BOARD IN PRINCIPAL <br />ANO REQUESTS THE MAYOR TO APPOINT A COMMITTEE TO WORK WITH THE ELECTORAL BOARD <br />ON THE DETAILS OF THESE RECOMMENDATIONS AND REPORT TO THE COUNCIL, WAS <br />UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. THE MAYOR APPOINTED MR. WEINBERG, MR. COLEMAN AND <br />MR. BOWEN TO THIS COMMITTEE. <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE AMERICAN TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH <br />REQUEST RE: AMERICAN TEL. & COMPANY REQUESTING PERMISSION TO CONSTRUCT A CONDUIT ALONG FAIRWAY AVENUE <br />TEL. CO. - CONDUIT ALONG <br />FAIRWAY AVE. TO E. MARKET STREET THENCE ALONG E. MARKET STREET TO CITY LIMITS. ON MOTION <br />BY MR. SCRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. MICHIE, IT WAS UNANIMOUSLY: <br />RESOLVED: THAT THE AMERICAN TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY BE AND <br />THEY ARE HEREBY AUTHORIZED TO CONSTRUCT A CONDUIT FOR COMMUNICATION PURPOSES <br />ALONG FAIRWAY AVENUE AND ALONG MARKET STREET FROM FAIRWAY AVENUE TO THE EAST <br />CITY LIMITS, WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THE CONSTRUCTION WORK ANO THE <br />REPLACEMENT OF THE STREET WILL BE DONE IN A MANNER ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY <br />
