MINUTES PUBLIC School Board. Dr. Hall seconded the nomination. Mr. Conover nominated Mr. John J. Pezzoli for appointment to the School Board, noting Mr. Pezzoli's character and qualifications. In addition, Mr. Conover stated that Mr. Pezzoli was President of the Burntey-Moran Parent_Teacher Organization and'a resident of downtown, both areas which had not had representation on the School Board in several years. Dr. Hall seconded the nomination. Mrs. Gleason endorsed Mr. Conover's statements and said it was gratifxing to know that so many qualified citizens made themselves avail- able for service to the community. Mr. Buck added his agreement. Ms. Lugo was reappointed and Mr. Pezzoli was appointed to serve a three-year term on the School Board by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. The terms shall begin July 1, 1983 and expire June 30, 1986. Mr. Buck stated that while Dr. Gunter was unable to attend the meeting, she was in agreement with the decision to appoint Ms. Lugo and Mr. Pezzoli. The meeting was adjourned. COUNCIL CHAMBER Tuesday, July S, 1983 Council met in regular session this date with the following.members present: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall. Absent: Dr. Gunter. On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Conover, the minutes.of June 14th were unanimously approved as presented. On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Conover, the minutes of June 20th were unanimously approved as amended. Mr. Robert Banks addressed Council asking for an extension of .use of City property for his boxing program which was to terminate the end of June. Mr. Banks said the ten year old program benefited youths and adults. In addition, he stated he had a fight scheduled for a boxer on July Zth and would need access to the gym to prepare. Mr. Bill Brenner spoke in support of the boxing program in which his 17 year old son has been involved. He said there was no other comparable program in Charlottesville. Mr. Steve Tharpe indicated his support for the boxing pro~ram in which he had participated the previous fall and winter. He stressed that he felt the program reached a segment of the community which did not participate in the programs offered by the Department of Parks and Recreation. He stated he f~lt the program offered discipline, training and a constructive use of participants' energy. Mr. Elonzo CUtchins also spoke in favor of the boxing program, having participated in it for over ten years. He said he had a fight on July 7th and hoped Council would give an extension so he could continue to use the facilities. Mr. Banks asked that an extension be given by Council on the use of the facility only until he could submit a concrete proposal to Council.
