MINUTES <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> School Board. Dr. Hall seconded the nomination. <br /> <br /> Mr. Conover nominated Mr. John J. Pezzoli for appointment to the <br /> School Board, noting Mr. Pezzoli's character and qualifications. In <br /> addition, Mr.. Conover stated that Mr. Pezzoli was. President of the <br /> Burnley-Moran Parent-Teacher Organization and a resident of downtown, <br /> both areas which had not had representation on the School Board in <br /> several years. Dr. Hall seconded the nomination. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason endorsed Mr. Conov~r's statements and said it was <br />gr.atifxing to know that so many qualified citizens made themselves avail- <br />able for service to the community. Mr. Buck added his agreement. <br /> <br /> Ms. Lugo was reappointed and Mr. Pezzoli was appointed to serve a <br />three-year term on the School Board by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, <br />Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gleason, br~ Hall. Noes: None. The terms shall begin <br />July 1, 1983 and expire June 30, 1986. <br /> <br />Mr. Buck stated that while Dr. Gunter was unable to attend the <br />meeting, she was in agreement with the decision to appoint Ms. 'Lugo and <br /> <br />Mr. Pezzoli. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />President <br /> <br /> COUNCIL CHAMBER - Tuesday, July 5, 1983 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session this date with the following.members <br /> present: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall. Absent: Dr. <br /> Gunter. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Conover, the minutes of <br /> <br /> June 14th were unanimously approved as presented. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Conover, the minutes of June 20th <br /> were unanimously approved as amended. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Banks addressed Council asking for an extension of use of <br />City property for his boxing program which was to terminate the end of June. <br />Mr. Banks said the ten year old program benefited youths and adults. In <br />addition, he stated he had a fight scheduled for a boxer on July Zth and <br />would need access to the gym to prepare. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bill Brenner spoke in support of the boxing program in which his <br /> <br />17 year old son has been involved. He said there was no other comparable <br />program in Charlottesville. <br /> <br /> Mr. Steve Tharpe indicated his support for the boxing program in which <br />he had participated the previous fall and winter. He stressed that he felt <br />the program reached a segment of the community which did not participate in <br />the programs offered by the Department of Parks and Recreation. He stated <br />he felt the program offered discipline, training and a constructive use of <br />participants' energy. <br /> <br /> Mr. Elonzo Cutchins also spoke in favor of the boxing program, having <br />participated in it for over ten years. He said he had a fight on July 7th <br />and hoped Council would give an extension so he could continue to use the <br />facilities. <br /> <br /> Mr. Banks asked that an extension be given by Council on the use of the <br />facility only until he could submit a concrete proposal to Council. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason noted that in a memorandum to Mr. Banks from the City, he <br /> <br /> <br />
