342 <br /> <br /> services provided by the. agency and asked for assistance in <br /> continuing their services until State funding could be secured. <br /> Mr. Segar requested $3,700 from the City in addition to the <br /> $6,300' recommended for CDBG funds. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question concerning Outreach affiliating <br /> <br /> itself with another agency, Mr. Segar stated that at the time it <br /> was investigated it was not felt that Outreach or its clients <br /> would benefit from such a change. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ray Mishler, Director of Red Cross Home Health Care, <br /> <br />requested $15,000 to provide home health care to low income elderly <br />citizens. Mr. Mishler stated that coordination had occurred with <br />JABA, and Charlottesville Department of Social Services in discussing <br />this plan for meeting a broader level of needs. <br /> <br /> The Thomas Jefferson EMS Council requested funding and stated <br /> <br />that they work cooperatively With the Red Cross and Heart Association. <br /> <br /> Ms. Amy Melville, Director of Youth Service Center, Ruth Wadlington, <br />Chairman of the Youth Commission, and Tom DeMai.o, Vice-Chairman, <br />requested funding of $6,755 which would be matched on a 3 to 1 basis <br />by the State. Mrs. Wadlington stated that the agency and board were <br />looking to'set new directions. <br /> <br /> Members of the Dogwood Chorus requested funding of $2,600 in order <br />for the chorus to continue to perform for the community. <br /> <br /> Council discussed funding requests for the agencies that had <br /> <br />appeared before them. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br /> Pr e s-ide~-~ ~_ <br /> <br /> BAS~MF. NC~ ROOM March 21, 1984 <br /> <br /> Council met for hearings on social service agency funding with <br /> <br /> the following members present: Mr. Buck, Mr~ Conover, Mrs. Gleason, <br /> Dr. Gunter, Dr.. Hall. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter Mclntosh, Director of Charlottesville-Albemarle Legal <br /> Aid Society, requested full funding of $8,700 by the City, noting that <br /> the Albemarle County staff was recommending full funding. Mr. Mclntosh <br /> stated his hope that Albemarle County wou~d become interested in the <br /> idea of a Mediation Center, which he felt would be vital to its success. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barry Kastner of Charlottesville Housing Improvement Program, <br />stated that production had been strong and he was pleased with the <br />year's accomplishments. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gordon Walker, Director of Jefferson Area Board for the Aging, <br />Rev. Bill Smith, Chairman of the Board, and Rosemary Hayes, representing <br />the JABA Advisory Council, stated that the concentrated focus of JABA <br />was on providing services to the frail and disadvantaged elderly and a <br />main priority was avoiding institutionalization. The following re- <br />commendations were made: 1) fund $7,658 £or JABA, 2) fund $10,300 in <br />CDBG funds for the in-house safety program, 3) fund Red Cross's request <br />for $15,000 for home services, and 4) fund an additional $29,000 for <br />full home services for thirteen new clients and appoint a task force to <br />recommend uses for the funds. <br /> <br /> <br />
