ORDINANCE: <br />RABIES <br />VACCINATION <br />FOR CATS <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> 1976, RELATING TO MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS," Mrs. Gleason seconded <br /> the motion, and it was carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> Ms. Sheila Haughey, Assistant City Attorney, explained that the <br /> ordinance, which requires that cats be vaccinated against 'rabies, but not <br /> licensed or tagged, was in response to the spread of rabies into Albemarle <br /> County. Ms. Haughey stated that the ordinance was supported by the Health <br /> Department and the SPCA. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason stated that she felt passage of the ordinance was essential <br /> as a public health measure and added that rabies vaccination clinics would <br /> be arranged by the Health Department. <br /> <br /> Mr. Conover noted concern that innocent cats might be picked up and <br /> taken to the SPCA and requested ~hat the five-day limit be extended. <br /> <br /> Mr. Haughey stated that the SPCA and Health Department were reviewing <br /> the ordinance and would make recommendations on any possible changes before <br /> the next meeting. <br /> <br /> Mr. Conover moved the ordinance entitled- "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND <br />RBORDAIN ARTICLE III OF CHAPTER 4 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, <br />1976, BY~ AMENDING AND RBORDAINING SECTIONS ~'-18 THROUGH 4-23, AND BY ADDING <br />NEW SECTIONS NUMBERED 4-24 THROUGH 4-31, SUCH AMENDED AND ADDED SECTIONS <br />REQUIRING RABIES VACCINATIONS FOR DOGS AND CATS, AND SPECIFIYING CONTROL <br />PROCEDURES AND PENALTIES," Dr. Gunter seconded the motion, and the ordinance <br />was carried over to the next meeting. <br /> <br /> There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br /> Mr. Conover requested that the State Highway Department be informed <br /> <br />that Council was in support of a two-lane bridge across the railroad tracks <br />on Ridge Street. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason concurred with Mr. Conover's request and stated she felt <br /> <br />it was important to reinforce the idea that CounCil .opposed the idea of <br /> <br />an expressway through town. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Conover, seconded by Dr. Gunter, Council unanimously <br />agreed that the State Highway Department be written to express Council's <br />support of a two-lane bridge on Ridge Street. <br /> <br /> Dr. Gunter requested a report on the status of the Safeway building <br /> <br />on Main Street. <br /> <br /> A.work session was planned for 7:30 p.m. on May 8th for Council, the <br />Planning Commission, and the Highway Department to discuss highways in <br /> <br />the City and the surrounding area. <br /> <br /> The meeting was-adjourned. <br />Cle~ <br /> <br />President <br /> <br /> · NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, May 7, t984 AT 7:1S p.m. <br />IN THE Council Chambers <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS F, OLLOWS: <br /> <br />Executive session to discuss matters of personnel as exempted by Section 2.1-344 <br />(a)(1) of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
