RESOLUTION: <br />REQUESTING <br />HIGHWAY DEPT. <br />TO INITIATE <br />A STUDY OF <br />9TH AND 10TH <br />STREETS <br />ALIGNMENT <br /> <br />Mr. Ray Haas, Vice-President of the University of Virginia, urged <br /> <br />Council and the Planning Commission to give the realignment of 9th and <br /> <br />10.th Streets priority in order to provide access to t'he University of <br /> <br />Virginia Hospital after its relocation. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Gunter, Council unanimously <br /> <br />voted to request the State Highway Department to initiate a study of the <br />9th and 10th Street realignment. It was agreed that a decision on the <br /> <br />priority would be made follOwing the study. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council has determined that it is necessary and <br />appropriate for the future transportation needs of the City to initiate <br />certain street and highway improvements; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia~Department of Highways and Transportation <br />requires a formal request for each project and certain commitments <br />on the part of City Council, before the Department can initiate work <br />on such highway projects to be funded from the City's annual allocations <br />of urban highway improvement funds; now, therefore, be it <br /> <br />RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville: <br /> <br />That the Virginia Department of Highways and Transpor~aZinn <br />be and hereby ms requested to establish a project within <br />the corporate limits of the City of Charlottesville for: <br /> <br />Realignment of 9th and 10th Streets and related improvements. <br /> <br />That the City hereby agrees to pay its share of the cost of <br />engineering, acquisition of right-of-way, and construction <br />of such project under the cost formula of 95% from the <br />Department.of 5% from the City. <br /> <br />The City further agrees that if such project is established <br />as herein requested, and thereafter the City elects not to <br />continue with such project to completion, the City will <br />repay the Department for 100% of the costs incurred by'the <br />Department up to the time of such action by the City terminating <br />such project. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner stated that an environmental study of the proposed Mclntire <br /> <br />Road Extension was beginning and would take nine months t'o one year to <br /> <br />complete. <br /> <br />Mr. Buck stated that he did not feel adequate information on the <br /> <br />Mclntire Road was available to give it a priority listing and requested <br /> <br />information .on when funds for the County portion would be available. <br /> <br />Council indicated their continued commitment to the building of Mclntire <br /> <br />Road Extended. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned.. <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE.
