ORDINANCES: ~LOSING A--PORTION OF 12TH STREET, S.W. AND in case the ownership of the property is transferred. Mr. Buck added that he had previously voted against rezoning the property but felt that thoughtful planning had been done by the developer. Mr. Hendrix stated that the University of Virginia had requested that the two streets be closed in order to make room for the new replacement CLOSING A PORTION hospital. OF PARK PLACE PUBLIC OTHER BUSINESS Mr. Hendrix stated that the only objection to the closings was that fire truck access would be.cut off. Dr. Sensbach, representing the Uni~ersity~of Virginia Hospital, and the project director for the replacement hospital, presented plans to Council and said that adequate turn around space behind Jordan Hall would be provided for emergency vehicles. The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND DISCONTINUING A PORTION OF 12TH STREET, S.W." was moved'by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Barnes and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND DISCONTINUING A PORTION OF PARK~.PLACE'' was moved by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Gunter and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. Mrs. Gleason stressed that emergency routes should be provided for as recommended. There were no matters by the public. Mr. Buck state.d that the School Board had requested Council approval of the hiring of an architect for the interior design work at Charlottesville High SchOot and added that the review process had been complete and the money previously appr.opriated. Mrs. Gleason moved to approve the hiring of an architect for interior work at Charlottesville High School, Mr. Barnes seconded the motion, and it was unanimously approved bY Council. Mr. Hendrix stated that public hearings had been held by the Social Development Commission, Planning Commission and Council on the Comprehen. sive Plan which was required to be updated every five years. Mr. Hendrix added that the physical development portion of the Plan was a legal requirement though this Plan was much broader in scope.
