RESOLUTION: <br />APPROVING <br />COMPREHENSIVE <br />PLAN <br /> <br />PUBLIC: <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />$400 FIRST <br />NIGHT VIRGINIA <br /> <br />APPOINTMBNTS: <br />BOARDS AND <br /> <br />COMMISSIONS <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason moved t0~amend the Comprehensive Plan by retaining the <br /> R-1 and R-2 zoning for the block north of Grady Avenue. Dr-. Hall <br /> seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> Mrs. Gleason moved to amend the Comprehensive Plan by changing the <br /> zoning for the area on the corner of Harris Road and Sth Street to <br /> commercial. Mr. Barnes seconded the motion and it was. unanimously approved <br /> by Council. <br /> Mr. Barnes stated that he felt the ComprehensivePlan was a well written <br /> and useful document though, he questioned the sidewalk priorities and. the <br /> high pr.iority given to the MediatiOn Center. <br /> Mr. Barnes moved to amend the Comprehensive Plan to change the zoning <br /> for the area known as Burnet Nursery Property on Lankford and Cherry Avenue <br /> to residential-commercial. Dr. Hall seconded the motion and it was unani- <br /> mouslx approved by COuncil. <br /> Dr. Hall moved approval of the Comprehensive Plan, as amended, Mrs. <br /> Gleason seconded the motiOn and the Comprehensive plan was unanimously <br /> approved by Council. <br /> Council thanked staff, the Planning Commission, and the Social <br /> Development Commission for their work on the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> There were no matters by the public. <br /> Mr. Buck stated that the First Night Virginia Board had requested <br /> that the City provide buses and utilities for First Night activities <br /> and recommended appropriating $S00 for that. purpose. <br /> Mrs. Gleason moved the appropriation ~f iS00 to First Night Virginia, <br /> Dr. Hall seconded the motion and it was approved by the following vote. <br /> Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. Noes- <br /> None. <br /> Mr. Buck stated that the Planning Commission had recommended Mr. <br /> Lloyd Smith to serve as the Planning Commission representative on the <br /> Social Development Commission. <br /> On nomination by Dr. Gunter, Mr. Smith was unanimously appointed <br /> as the Planning Commission repres~entative on the Social Development <br /> Commission. This term shall expire on August 31, 1988. <br /> Mrs. Gleason congratulated staff on the Distinguished Budget AWard <br /> recently presented to the City by the Government Finance Officers <br /> Association. <br /> Mr. Buck stated that he felt the award gave assurances to the public <br /> that City funds are accounted for in the best possible way. <br /> On motion by Mrs. ~Gleason, secOndeg by Dr~ Hall, Council unanimously <br /> voted to meet in.executive session for personnel matters as exempted by <br /> Se~tion 2.1-3'44Ca)(1) of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. <br />~ing was adjourned. <br /> ~~ Cle <br /> <br /> COUNCIL CHAMBBR Monday, December S, 1984 <br /> <br /> Council m~t.in regular session on this .date with the following <br /> <br /> members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Budk, Mrs~ Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. <br /> <br /> Hall. <br /> <br /> <br />
